Chapter 23 - Afterthought

Hina slept peacefully... but before she did, she spent a long time looking at the ceiling in silence. She only wore underwear, right now, and both Aurelia and Emily had draped a wing over her... Charlotte was curled up between Hina's thighs, and Nao was lying half on top of her, head resting on Hina's stomach.

So much had happened... Hina's mind, as she couldn't sleep, decided to slowly run through it all... first, she'd lived a normal life on Earth- or rather, her version of Earth. Aika... part of her, Hina, still felt somewhat bad, for moving on so quickly, but Hina, formerly Hinata, was only eighteen. It almost certainly wasn't a time for settling down all your life, it was a time for finding your way in the world, trying new things... teenagers were always breaking up, finding new love.

Then, Hina reincarnated, tripping down the underground stairs like nothing about her mattered; really, of course, nothing about her DID matter in the grand scheme of things back there. Here though, maybe things would be different...

It was weird. Summoned Heroes were meant to wake up in fancy castles, be treated as saviors... and maybe most of the Starrian summons were, but she, Nao, and that kitsune girl, Miyuki... there was no way they could have hoped for fair treatment there.

They couldn't just let them go, though; they'd killed the fox girl, and tracked Hina and Nao to that border village, Lop. They'd been attacked by the knights... Lily was there, and so was that strange, dark haired elf. Hina remembered him clearly; the purpose in his eyes, the defiance in his stance... when she'd come to, having blacked out on the battlefield, he was being hoisted onto shoulders and carried off. It wasn't that Hina was attracted to the guy she'd not met, but he certainly made an impression.

They'd fled, and hadn't they been attacked again? Hina was sleepy, and everything felt foggy... but she was fairly certain. They'd beaten back Starria, and that was probably what would have ensured the beginning of the war in earnest... but by then, Hina had been infected by a Phylactery Lich. Blacking out, weak, scared... they'd all been through the wringer, and for a while it seemed as though a couple of them were going to die.

Aurum and Argent, two of the Cerberus sisters... they'd finished Hina's transformation and sent her to Starria's Capitol just as soon as she'd finally reached the heart of Mir. Things were really, really fuzzy there, but she was fairly certain that she'd killed every remaining Summoned Hero and slaughtered much of Starria's army, with the help of her friends... there was a voice in her head, and even now she was left with those skills, Dextrous Tentacles and Hellfire. She should probably ask Emily to teach her about Hellfire, but she was a little nervous about playing with tentacles...

Finally, Hina had been allowed to rest. She'd gone for a nice date with Emily, which ended in them having dinner with Lily and her anti-homophobe parents... and then she'd had some seriously weird fun with Aurelia before passing out here. All in just about two months... Hina felt like she was at the end of some short anime light novel, with everything going on. Tomorrow, she'd be off to Heaven... but for now, Hina had exhausted the last of her mental reserves, and finally drifted off to sleep.

Aerendyl sighed softly, reclining on a gilded couch. A human woman still lay across his chest... her face was pretty and her brown hair clean, glossy, cute... but... this wasn't love, at least not yet. Aerendyl was a half angel, created from a human just like Melody, and as such, he'd never lost his sex drive as most angels do. Even so, this was nice- and a way to distract himself from Hina. Surely, if he kept sleeping with other women, eventually he'd feel SOMETHING for one of them, right?

He had the same future sight ability that the angels had briefly gifted Hina just to manipulate her... and what he'd seen hadn't exactly come to pass, but things had been pretty close. You'll get a lot of crap in life about how the future is never certain, but even if that's true, everything happens for a reason, no matter when that reason becomes set in stone. In the end, all of them had almost died for real, no coming back... except for Hina. She could have lived her life in that demonic form, and lived it happily, albeit psychotically... but the angels brought her back to use as a figurehead.

Aerendyl felt like he should care, be angry... but he was a bit too tired to do so, this human girl's body heat filling him with hazy, easy warmth... for the first time in months, he felt he could at last sleep.

Then, we switch back to me. Do you remember me? William Pendragon, you haven't heard from me in a while. You know the story of how Bella, Cain and I were set free... but it's time that you know our full story, because we were more involved than you might think. Next up, you're going to hear from us, and I'll fill you in a little more on that hero; Miyuki. I planned to bring her back, but... well, you'll find out in your own time.

It's been a crazy, almost deranged story so far, hasn't it... and it only gets stranger, from here on in, although there's a good chance it gets a lot easier to read with a light heart. Who knows, though? I'm not the god of this world, I'm just a bastard elf who wants to do some good.
