"Guys!" Mac yelled. She didn't know why there was a door and what was inside, but either way she didn't want to find out alone. Her family came rushing and froze when they saw the open piece of wall.
She crept forward slowly, holds her breath. She lightly pushed on the door to open it. It was dark and there was a relatively large room inside. It accounted for all the missing space that Mac noticed.
She pulled out het iPhone X and quickly put on her torch. As she slowly walked into the room she started to feel like fate had led her here. Lights suddenly came on all over. She got a fright, but shortly realized they were motion activated.
"Mac, where the hell do you think you're going?" Nick said calling back his sister.
'I have to see what's in here, its important!'
She went in and looked around. It was dusty everywhere. She walked in and saw a large framed piece of paper with something written on it. "Its safe guys," she said to call her family in as she went deeper into the mysterious chamber.
There were bookshelves and chests in there, old dark oak. But there was something suspicious, three large modern looking glass cases. All three were empty.
The three each had a small golden plaque with a strange item's name engraved in the metal. They read, 'Crystal eye', 'Nemean lion paw' and 'Black diamond faberge egg'.
As she turned around she saw that her brother was taking photos around the room, her mom was looking at the old furniture and her dad was looking at the books.
She started to go back to the framed piece of paper on the large table. She scanned it to see if she could notice any mention of the tree items on the plaques. She saw it quickly, mention of the crystal eye.
"This thing is important, its telling me about the things I saw were missing."
"Let's hear it then," her dad said.
Mac read it aloud. She carefully pulled the frame laying flat on the round table.
"Once my enemies far and wide
Stole my possessions in the night
Seven days I give to thee
To get back what belongs to me
A crystal eye you will steal
Back from a certain heel
A small golden claw
Like that of a lion's paw
A bejeweled egg that shines so bright
It's compared to the stars at night
Get it back and you shall live
Or else to me your life shall give
A bloody fate you shall face
A bloody axe or a rusty mace"
"What the hell is a crystal eye?" Nick asked.
"Don't know," the rest of his family answered one by one.
"The egg I know, it's called a faberge egg. They're Russian and sold for millions of dollars. There is only one with a midnight star theme." Mac's mom said.
The lion's claw was the only one left. "Have you heard of the golden rhino of Mapungubwe?" Nick asked.
"A small rhino found on a hill. There were other things they could have made too." Mac replied.
Just like that the small South African family knew what to do. They had to find three strange relics with absolutely nothing in common.
"We don't know where any of them are but the one we know least about is the eye. Why don't we start reading these books and papers to see what it is."
The four family members set off through the room, each going through notes, scrolls, books and diaries. They found some things on an eye. They assumed it was the crystal eye.
