The next morning the three of them had breakfast ordered to their room, when it arrived they sat down together to discuss what their plan for today was.
"So last night was.....not the best way to start, but today we're going to succeed. I hope" Elizabeth stared the conversation taking a bite of her egg.
"And where will we be starting?" Peter asked.
"We're gonna have to wait for agent browns call. He'll tell us where we need to go"
"And when is—" as peter said that, Elizabeth's watch started beeping.
"Right now I guess" she pressed her watch revealing agent Brown as a hologram.
"Agents" he spoke with authority. "Today your mission will take place at the Trevi fountain. You will have to look out for any signs of suspicion, or anyone who might be the dark ones minions, or anything remotely related to taking him down. Am I clear?"
"Affirmative" they all responded.
"Good, get to it quickly, we're on a tight schedule and we're not having any luck back at base, this man's a tricky guy to track down"
"We'll do our best" Elizabeth reassured him.
He nodded to her then disappeared.
"We should get going right away" she said.
"But my toast.." peter complained still hungry.
"Just take it with you" John told him.
She rolled her eyes at their childish behavior then cleaned herself up. Once they were all dressed up, they took whatever weapons they needed and hid the others finally heading out.
——————————————————————————————————————————————
When they arrived at the their location they hid out in their van which was hidden in an alleyway.
"So just do exactly what Brown told us, keep an eye out, don't get distracted and don't get caught" Elizabeth explained handing them earpieces.
"Should we have code names for each other?" Peter asked with such enthusiasm.
"What?" She replied looking very done with him.
"Code names, so we don't draw suspicion"
"Right, because calling ourselves by wired names in public is definitely less suspicious"
"Yeah, but if there where any spies nearby and they heard us addressing each other with other names they can't track us down!"
She starred at him with an 'are you serious' expression then sighed. "Fine...what do you wanna call us?" She said in a soft and exhausted tone not noticing John laughing silently beside her.
"Okay so I thought John could be called 'agent red', and then I could be '007' and—"
"I'm not calling you '007'" Elizabeth cut him off.
"Just let him call himself that"
"I'm not calling him '007'" she repeated.
"Fine" he glared. "Then I want to be called 'agent bond'"
She raised an eyebrow . "Oh come on! If you won't call me '007' at least let me be called agent 'bond'!" He pleaded.
She shook hear head "...whatever you want"
"Great! You can be called...ooh, 'agent 23'!"
"Okay, you gave us nicknames, now are you ready to go?"
"Yup!" He replied with a large grin as if he where a child.
"Good. Now you're going to observe the place from above, just make sure you're not seen up their. John, you and me will cover the grounds. Do you have your earpieces in?" The nodded. "Then let's go"
They each headed their own direction keeping their eyes and ears everywhere.
A short time passed and they still haven't found anything.
"Hey peter—"
"I'm sorry, who?"
Elizabeth rolled her eyes. "Agent bond" she said sarcastically.
"Yes?" He replied. She could practically hear his grin.
"Have you spotted anything yet?"
"No. Nothing so far"
"John what about—" she turned around her but couldn't see him anywhere.
"John?"
"You've got to be kidding me" she muttered under her breath.
"John! John!!" She kept saying through her earpiece but she didn't hear a response.
She kept searching around until she found him taking pictures near the fountain.
"John!" She yelled at him, ignoring the stares of a few people around them.
He jumped and turned around being met with a furious Elizabeth. "What! I wasn't doing anything"
"Are you kidding me!?" She whisper-shouted dragging him by his shirt away from the fountain.
"We are on an extremely time sensitive mission and you're sight seeing!?"
"I've never been to Rome before. Bella Roma!" He said gesturing around with with a Spanish accent.
"There isn't gonna be a Bella Roma if you don't take care of this" she stepped closer to him.
"All of more reason too see it now!"
"Uhh, guys?" Peter said through his earpiece but neither of them payed any attention to him.
"This is not what we're here for!"
"It's kinda what I'm here for" he said defensively.
"Guys?"
"You are jeopardizing this entire mission"
"No I'm not—"
"GUYS!"
"What!" They booth yelled back at him.
"Oh nothing, I just wanted to let you know that THERE IS A GUY RUNNING RIGHT PAST YOU AND HE COULD BE A SPY!"
"Shit. Let's go" she said as they set off after the man.
"HEY!" She yelled after him, he simply glanced back and sped up his pace.
Now she was convinced he was a spy.
Pushing people aside, not caring about how crazy the looked. "He's heading towards the bridge!" John pointed out. The ran as fast as they could trying to catch him before he jumped off unfortunately he jumped before the caught him.
Elizabeth stared down to where he jumped, she lifted her leg up climbing the fence ready to jump after him but John quickly and firmly trapped her wrist stopping her from doing so.
"Are you insane!" He shouted his grip on her wrist still tight.
"Perhaps" she went to jump but John pulled her back getting her to step down.
"You can't possibly swim after him"
"Well now I can't"
"He probably had some sort of ship or submarine under there, you couldn't have caught up. And anyways we can get him back later"
"What if there is no later. What if he had important information, what if he had the weapon!"
"None of this would've happened if you were actually paying attention"
"Oh, so this is my fault now?" He said in an offended tone.
"You where to busy taking pictures of your precious 'Bella Roma' maybe if you weren't you could have spotted him!"
"Okay. You need to stop pinning every little mishap on me. You know you could have spotted him. You could have not payed any attention to me and maybe, just maybe, you could have caught him.
I could have caught a picture of him, who knows? Anything could have happened but no, you have to 'control everything'—"
"I—"
"No, no I'm not done. Do you see me blaming you on anything that happened? No you don't because unlike you I don't have this extreme arrogance. You blame others for your problems because you just can't seem to own up to your mistakes. We are a team, I think it's about time you realize you can't control everything"
Elizabeth glared at John in slight anger, however deep inside her she knew that he was right. She didn't want to admit it though, she just couldn't bring herself to it.
She tried finding the right words to say but nothing came out of her mouth, instead she simply looked down to the ground, muttering a simple 'let's head back' to John returning to the van.
"Well that was a complete disaster" peter sighed heavily sitting back defeatedly in his chair.
Elizabeth was about to give up as well when a thought struck through her mind. She sat up, a little bit of hope in her eyes. "John can I see your camera real quick?" He handed it to her, and she hooked it up to the computer.
She pulled out every picture he had took and zoomed in on all of them, until...
"Would this happen to be the man we're looking for?" She said smirking.
The other two sat up, their eyes widening in disbelief as in front of them with a picture of the same man they where chasing, they also noticed they symbol tattooed on his arm.
"How did you—"
"You managed to get a picture of him"
"Did I?" He said looking smug. "Looks like someone owes me an apology"
"Looks like I do"
"Well?"
"I said I owe you"
"I'd like to hear it right now if you don't mind"
"You'll hear it when you get it"
"Now lets figure out who you are..." Peter hacked into the system trying to identify the blurry face, it took a while but eventually a name popped up.
"What's his name?" John asked.
"Daniel Leonard"
