Chapter 2 - The Nightmare

Kaira at midnight went downstairs to take up some water. She went to the fridge and then took a bottle of water.

While she was drinking, she heard a strong knock on the door. With every second the knock grew stronger. She stood there silently with fears. Her hands were shivering and the bottle fell on the ground. She couldn't stand properly due to the loud noise of the knock. She started to figure out who can be this?

The terror started to flow in every vein of her and she could just do is to scream out!

Screaming with sweat everywhere, Kaira woke up. For a moment she was confused, what was that? But the other moment she took relief because luckily it was just a dream. She looked herself in the mirror and tried to forget everything to start her 1st day.... alone.

She took an aromatic, lukewarm bath in the morning just after her frantic nightmare. Later she went into the kitchen to brine and smoke the bacon for her breakfast.

It wasn't that long to be ready in the morning and stuff your stomach with food. She did have a lot of time left with her, but no way to utilize it. She laid down on her bed with earphones in ears and volume up. A sudden thought of Amethyst hit her head. Probably she should go and see her. Even she doesn't have anything special to do.

She soon booked a cab to Amethyst place.

She took her jacket out as it was the month of April and then went in front of the mirror to put her transparent contact lenses. She didn't have any visual impairment but still, her parents insisted her to wear these lenses before meeting anyone. When she was done with it, she combed her hair down. And by the next few minutes, she was already sitting in the cab.

It took nearly 45 minutes to reach there. In all her way she looked out to see the dazzling sunshine. It was not cloudy today and does not seem like rain. She paid the driver and then went directly inside the house. Amethyst was sitting on the lawn alone, observantly watching the birds drinking water.

"How's your leg now?" Kaira asked while taking the empty seat beside her.

Amethyst turned her head excitedly and nearly jumped in her excitement.

"Whoa, watch yourself" Kaira warned.

"It's so good to see you" Amethyst continued with her eyes gleaming "By the way, you didn't inform me you about coming. I might have grilled you some cheese sandwiches"

"Oh, it's all right. I'm already stuffed with food" Kaira took out her phone and checked out if she has any messages left unseen. She watched the pictures of Aiden on the great wall of China and showed it to Amethyst. They together commented on the picture and imagined what they would have been doing if not stuck in this type of situation.

"I would have been in Canada" Amethyst told her point of view.

"I must have been spending some quality time with my dad" Kaira said with a dwindling voice.

"Did you bring your chemistry notes?" Amethyst tried to change the topic recognizing dawn on Kaira's face.

"Oh, actually it's with Abanoub. He forgot to return it before going on his trip" Kaira explained noticing the change in Amethyst's countenance. Her expression was hardened. The whole color from her skin went off.

"What it is Amethyst?" Kaira enquired.

"I think he is strange. He is perplexing. I'm studying him from the past 4 months and there's something different about him" Amethyst tried to put it into simple words.

"And what makes you think so?"

Amethyst took her time trying to find out words for clarification "I just feel like that. I don't have any evidence"

Kaira watched her silently for a short time and then turned her head towards the same place where Amethyst was looking before. "Interesting" Kaira muttered, "even though it isn't".

"That's what I was questioning myself a jiffy before. It's interesting to watch them drinking water" Amethyst supported her words.

They sat there and talked for hours, almost on every topic. With the time the dazzling sunshine was now being covered with the dense dark clouds. The warmness was disappearing and cold shivering winds started to blow.

"We should take shelter now" Amethyst suggested and tried to stand up on one leg. Kaira helped her to stand up and took her into the house.

"Seems no one's there" Kaira commented on the darkness in the room.

"Mom and dad are out. They are celebrating their 17th Anniversary together" Amethyst smiled.

Kaira went to a painting that was exquisitely portraying a picture of an old woman playing a trumpet. It was right in front of the couch. Amethyst soon understood that she was turned off today.

"What's the matter? I can feel the 'not in mood Kaira' today"

"It's an ephialtes," Kaira told everything about her nightmare. She told her how much she was worried about it but at the same time, she was trying to hide her worriedness. "It's just a dream. I should not care about it. They aren't true".

"Kaira, Dreams come true and nightmares are a part of it" Amethyst resumed "The thing important is we should be prepared to face it"

The sound of the wind became an uproar. The clouds started to begin thunder. The shutter of the window started making a crack noise.

"I think I should go before the weather become worse. Even it's nearly 6" Kaira stated. She remembered her mother's word to be back home before it's dark.

"You can take my car" Amethyst proposed.

"But what about your parents?"

"They won't be bothered. We already have our own personal cars" Amethyst went to nearby drawer took out the car keys and kept in the arms of Kaira.

"Cool, thanks for this Amethyst. I owe you one" Kaira showed her gratitude and turned away to leave.

"Anytime. Take care of yourself" Amethyst sounded concerned. Kiara turned and gave a smile. She waved her hand and continued walking.

Mr. And Mrs. Dankworth were on the plane to London. They were still two hours away.

Mr. Dankworth was on his paperwork and Mrs. Dankworth was having her dinner.

"Is there anything for you, sir?" The hostess asked.

"No thanks. We're good" Mr. Dankworth grinned. He went back to his paperwork still keeping his thoughts somewhere else.

He looked at his wife and said "I wonder if Kaira is matured enough now to know the reality".

"Of course, she is but it will be better if we go at a slow pace. A sudden hit of all these could affect her mentally" Mrs. Dankworth acknowledged.

"Certainly, we will Shyne. But it ought to be us"

"It will be us" Mrs. Dankworth held his hand with assurance.

It wasn't long from now when Kaira was going to know everything.
