He held my hand gently as we walked the crowded streets filled with people, food vendors, and merchandise.
This is amazing! It's like a traditional market we used to have back in Nevada! I want to buy and eat everything I want!
I looked up at the trashman and saw a worried facial expression, looking around like a paranoid maniac.
I tugged his cloak with my other hand, trying to catch his attention.
"Daddy. Why do you keep looking around? We are here to have fun, right? Why are you so scared?" I questioned as I looked up at him.
He closed his eyes and sighed in frustration.
"Don't speak nonsense. Me? Scared? I am making sure we are not being followed. There's a difference. Once I get the word from the knights that we are safe to roam around, I will relax a bit. For now, stop asking questions and let me focus." He replied in an irritated manner.
Jeez. If I knew you were going to be this paranoid, we should have stayed home.
I saw the trash man turn his head quickly.
"Everything seems to be safe… for now at least…very well then. Let's continue to walk and if you see something you'd like, let me know."
I nodded, and we continued our walk.
Every once in a while, I would still catch the trashman looking around in a paranoid manner.
We walked up to an empty corner where a tall man with a black cloak stood suspiciously.
"Let's stop here for a second. I need to speak to a knight. It is important. Don't move." The trashman ordered as we stopped in front of the cloaked man. He released his grip from my hand.
If there is one thing I learned from my previous life, it is to never go too far from your parents. All those scary times I would roam the grocery store, only to get lost and cry for my mom, is a harsh lesson to learn.
I stayed put, waiting patiently for the trashman to finish up his discussion with a knight in disguise.
"CHILDREN OF ALL AGES, BOYS, AND GIRLS! THE MOON SHOW WILL BEGIN SHORTLY! TAKE YOUR SEATS BEFORE THEY ARE ALL TAKEN!" a loud voice from a distance announced.
Many people from all sides began to gather around us, trying to follow the announcement. The crowd grew by the second and started to walk while shoving as if they were in a mosh pit. I quickly began to panic. I looked up at the trashman, and to my surprise, he was being shoved into the crowd as well. My tiny body blended in with the roaring crowd. I have two choices: I either walked along, or I will get trampled.
Guess I better get to walking!
"SHIT! WHERE IS SHE?! QUICK! FIND HER!" I heard the trashman's yelling that mixed in with the screaming horde of people.
"The Moon show will be in the center stage! Quick, we have to beat everyone to get good seats!"
"Move! Out of the way!"
"How dare you push a lady!"
Hundreds of people yelled as they blocked the streets.
Shit. How do I get out of this mess? I keep trying to push my way into the very edge of the crowd, but I keep getting sucked in.
Out of nowhere, a hand grabbed my cloak with full force and out of the packed crowd.
She grabbed my hand, and we began to run away from the chaos behind us. We finally stopped in what appeared to be a dark alley.
I placed my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath.
"Whoo! Are ya alright there, little lady?" A slim, tall girl questioned.
I quickly looked up while adjusting my cloak. I observed the tall girl who saved my life.
A curly-haired brunette with dirty, tattered clothing… freckled face with brown eyes. Judging by her unmistakable appearance and thick accent, I'd say she is the daughter of a commoner.
"Ya know, most people would show their gratitude by saying "thank ya." The tall girl said sarcastically.
"Oh! Thank… thank you so much! You… you saved my life!" I replied in surprise.
"It's rude to stare. You look like a noble, yet you have no manners. What a shame. It's always the rich ones that lack simple morals and respect." The tall girl laughed as she dusted off her dirty shirt.
"I... I am sorry. I… I lost my… dad in the crowd of people. He must be looking for me right now. What do I do?" I explained in shock, looking around
The tall, lanky girl nodded while scratching her head.
"I knew something was up with you. You didn't look like you belonged in the crowd. What does your old man look like? I'll help ya find em. I know the streets like the back of my hand, ya know. Where did you last see em?" The slim girl questioned.
My eyes grew, my body froze.
Shit… Only the royal family of this land has emerald eyes and jet black hair. Luckily, it's night time, and my eye color is hard to spot, but If I were to describe the trashman's appearance, we would be exposed; this can cause a huge problem. But… how else am I supposed to find him? What do I do?!
