Ok, ok, come on you can do this, he's just a person. Dylan fidgeted uncomfortably in her seat, glancing over at Dallas's massive form hunched over finishing the worksheet she had finished 5 minutes ago. She opened her mouth to say something but hesitated, rethinking for the 20th time what she would say.
At this point he stood and handed in his paper in before walking back over and shrugging on his bag and pulling out his phone. Well, it would be rude to interrupt so maybe tomorrow.
The bell rang and he headed for the door with the rest of the class and a short burst of frustration at herself rushed through her. She grabbed her bag and set her jaw then strode after him. His legs were a lot longer than hers, so that combine with the way the people in the hall parted before him like the Red Sea meant she had to jog to catch up with him. "Hey, umm, Dallas," she called, hopping at bit to squeeze through the last of the people between them. She tapped on his arm, huffing a little, "Umm, Dallas."
He kept walking, ignoring her as she tried to keep pace with him, walking just a bit faster than was comfortable. "Dallas, could you slow down just a bit?"
She tried to get a look at his face to see if he had even noticed she was there. She thought she could just make out the edge of a smile and she frowned. Is he doing this on purpose?
"Dallas," she rushed forward to stand in front of him and he stopped, looking down at her with an exasperated expression and crossed his arms. "I need to talk to you," she said, crossing her arms as well. He gave her a 'well, what is it' expression and she searched for the confidence that she could have sworn was there just a moment ago. She cleared her throat and took a deep breath then fixed him with her best stern look, "We need to discuss how we'll work on projects and homework, I mean, you haven't said a single word to me and we were partnered up a week ago, in fact aside from grunts I don't even know what your voice sounds like and we've attend the same school since 6th grade. All I'm asking is that you work with me here."
Having finished her speech, she stood glaring at him, still breathing heavily. He didn't move for a while, didn't even blink, but finally he unfolded his arms and held out his cell. She glanced down at the phone, confused, "What is this?" He grimaced for a moment and looked around.
The hallway was completely empty by this point so she wasn't quite sure what he was looking for. He eyes eventually landed back on her and then he did the unthinkable, in a deep rumbly voice he said, or she guess more demanded, "Give me your number."
She gaped at him because oh my gosh, Dallas Lark just spoke, had the world tilted off it's axis? She did ask him to speak to her but she hadn't actually expected him to do it. This was a miraculous moment and only one thing was ruining it... "Excuse me?"
"I said give me your number," he growled at her.
Her eyebrows shot up, "Oh." She frowned for moment, "Umm, ok, let me rephrase, excuse you? Who died and made you king?"
He sighed, looking up at the ceiling before looking back down at her, "Look, this way anytime we have a project you can just send me a time and place and I'll be there, ok? So stop being so difficult and give me your number." She blinked at him still a little in shock he was even talking to her. "Dylan," he snapped, "I haven't got all day."
He waved his phone at her and she numbly took it. He started walking again, just leaving her with his phone. Well then. She jogged to catch up with him, opening the screen as she went. She was a little surprised to find that he didn't have a lock on it, but then again, who would dare touch Dallas Lark's phone?
She opened his contacts and entered her number, stopping briefly to take a quick photo of herself for the contact pic. She then edited a bunch of hearts around her face and set her contact name to 'my favorite person ever!!!'. Grinning, she shot herself a text.
She opened her camera and looked up to take a surprise picture of him but found he was no longer with her in the hall. Instead, he was standing just outside the school, leaning against the glass. She quietly pushed through the first door and snapped a picture of him before locking her phone and ducking out the second door. "Took you long enough," he said, standing up straight.
She handed him the phone, "I texted myself so I have your number too." He nodded as a car pulled up.
William stuck his head out the passenger window, "Yo, Lark, stop flirting and let's go."
Immy leaned across the center consul of the car, "Hey, Prom Queen, we're going to the new Tom Cruise movie, you wanna go with?" Dylan glanced at Dallas and he looked about ready to take Immy's head off.
The brunette just smiled with an evil glint in her blue eyes. Her gazed flicked to Dylan and she raised a perfectly manicured eyebrow. Dylan took a moment to weigh her options before nodding, "Ok." Dallas's head snapped towards her with a growl. She side eyed him, "Ok then, maybe I won't go."
Immy rolled her eyes, "Get in the damn car, Prom Queen, and Dallas stop acting like.. whatever that is." William chuckled as Immy sat back in her seat.
Dallas still hadn't stopped glaring at Dylan and she crossed her arms, "Look, Dallas, if you don't want me to go just say so."
He averted his eyes so Dylan nodded then spun on her heel letting her hair swing over her shoulder for dramatic effect and strode towards the car. She slid into the empty back seat and Dallas followed grumbling under his breath. William spun around, "Now now, Dallas, it's only a movie, I'll hardly have anytime time to embarrass you in front of her."
Immy snorted, "Yeah, there's nothing to worry about, Eli isn't coming."
Dallas rolled his eyes and Dylan felt her face heat. Immy turned on the radio and Dylan tuned out the awkward in the back seat. She hummed along to the song that was playing and braided a strand of her strawberry blonde hair, contemplating whether to get it cut or not as it hung down to the small of her back when she was standing.
Dallas stared silently out the other window and William texted someone in the front seat. Immy, likely uncomfortable with the silence in the car, sung along with whatever came on. Loudly. Dylan giggled to herself as Immy hit a particularly high note. William winced and turned to make a KMN face at her. "Immy, our eardrums," Dallas grumbled and William's eyes widened.
Immy just took a hand off the wheel and gave him the finger, making Dylan laugh harder. Dallas narrowed his eyes at her as Immy pulled into the parking lot. Dylan just smiled and got out of the car. Immy jumped out, "By the way, Prom Queen, you can leave your bag in the trunk, we'll give you a ride back to school to get your car after." Dylan hadn't even thought of this potential issue but was glad Immy had cleared it up.
She dumped bag and Dallas did the same before closing the trunk. He looked at her for a moment and he looked like he was gonna say something but Immy walked up and linked arms with her. "Come on, Prom Queen, let's go before Ruben gets into a mood."
Dylan's eyes widened, "Wait, Ruben is coming?"
Immy tilted her head at Dylan, "What's wrong?"
"Umm, I guess, ah, I don't think Ruben likes me very much," Dylan said, blushing a little but unsure why.
Immy snorted, "Ruben doesn't really like anyone but honestly don't take him to seriously, he's not as cool as he thinks he is." This didn't provide Dylan with much comfort which must have shown on her face because Immy frowned. She thought for a moment then leaned towards Dylan, "Hey, if he starts bothering you just flirt with him, he blushes really easily and it makes him super uncomfortable." Dylan raised an eyebrow and Immy nodded. She laughed a little as Immy grinned, "Don't worry, Prom Queen, I got your back."
They walked through the doors of the cinema, followed by William and Dallas. Ruben was sitting on a bench a few feet away, playing something on his phone. William called out to him and he looked up with a bored expression. His gaze zeroed in on Dylan immediately and his eyes narrowed. She glared back at him. He stood and stalked towards the group. He stopped right in front of her and turned his glare on Immy, "What is she doing here."
Immy raised her eyebrows and pursed her lips, "Oh, uh, she's here cause I asked her to come and she said yes, got a problem with that?"
"Actually yeah I do have a problem with that."
Immy nodded, giving him a sympathetic expression, reached out and patted his cheek, "Well, I guess your just gonna have to deal with that, aren't you?"
She then grabbed Dylan by the arm and tugged her around him. He opened his mouth to say something undoubtedly hurtful but Dallas put a firm hand on his shoulder and just looked at him. Ruben looked away and the other boys walked past him to follow Immy and Dylan. He trudged along moodily behind them, grumbling under his breath. Gosh, this is gonna be fun.
