His ears are still ringing from roaring waves and the wind blowing hard, resisting the journey up ahead. His worn-out hands and exhausted legs can't take it anymore, haunted by the deadly teeth of the sea serpents and the fishes waiting enthusiastically to scavenge him. It was pitch black everywhere he looked; he could only see the darkness that lurked around him and the ocean that surrounded him. Thoughts blew into him, like a storm, in the darkness around.
He swam for hours and hours which felt like years. He felt as thirsty as Tantalus, but he could not drink. He stopped. having given up the tiny hope he had sunk deeper into his heart as he drowned deeper and deeper into the ocean. All of a sudden, he noticed a light from the distant horizon.
It felt like the sun had come up once again for the frightened, lost people; like god himself appeared in front of him. With faint hope, he swam towards the light with his tired yet determined body. But as he progressed, everything froze. He felt as if he could not move towards it anymore and he once again started drowning.
I cannot give up now! I have a whole life ahead of me no matter how hard it is.
Everything started becoming a blur and he could hear a beeping sound
Beep…Beep…Beep
He found himself in a comfy, white bed. He looked around to familiarize his surroundings and saw his favorite bright yellow Allen Solly shirt on the chair, bloody red, with burn marks. He knew something was wrong as he could hear the beeping instrument from his right. Even though he felt a disability to turn, his curiosity about what's going on forced him and as he did, he felt a sudden jolt of pain from the back of his head. He retrieved his head back to its normal state, presenting a table to his side with a lot of trays and a window. Tall trees were overfilled outside checking on him, as friendly as his family. They consoled him, saying everything would be alright bowing down intended for a person with a lot of questions, he recalled how nurturing nature could be to the most desperate of people. He looked back inside, hoping for the best and he found a metallic door in front of him showing him something horrendous…
A reflection.
He found himself with a broken rib and his head was not in good shape at all. It was exceedingly bandaged making it seem impossible to even see his own face, and his pillow was stained red indefinitely with blood. The door, at which he still glared at gaping, started to move and a lady in a white uniform was uncovered. She was a short lady who looked new; her uniform was as white as the snow found in December. She had a tray in her hand with some Glucose trips in it. She came in and placed the tray on the table next to Ray. She looked at him for about a minute and looked out to the waiting room window, her eyes conveying pity.
"Everyone has lost hope in you except for her." She hesitated to talk to a coma patient "We only let you stay because of the faint hope you gave us when you opened your eyes, but alas, no response… still stuck in a coma."
Ray flinched, making her realize he was awake. Covering her open mouth with her hands, she ran out of the metallic door, closing it behind her showing Ray his uncomfortable reflection again yet a sound of joy behind it.
Then everything happened in a flash, about three to four doctors came in and one flashed the torch into Ray's eyes, which blinded him while the others hit his knees and elbows with a hammer to check his reflexes and his blood rates.
With a sigh of relief, they glimpsed at Ray with a smile, and one by one left the room slowly. His eyes were still adjusting from the torchlight when the door opened once again, someone appeared at it.
Who is he?
Then he realized it was a 'she' and not a 'he'. At that moment, he felt a throbbing from the back of his head. He could hear the beep from the device getting faster and faster.... and finally, BLACKOUT.
