Chapter 17 - – The Escape

Five minutes of pacing in my room passed and I still felt like I wanted to kill someone. I settled for kicking the chair.

And a mirror.

And the door.

I didn't feel satisfied enough. Claw whimpered as the mirror shards scattered all over the floor. It was ridiculously freezing in my room.

I noted the frost that surrounded the door and window and shrugged on Chases' jacket that I forgot to give back and snuggled into it.

My father has absolutely lost it. Just the thought of marriage made me gag. So many thoughts and words flew through my brain, not all being extremely pg.

I was going insane.

"Okay." I drew a deep breath.

I've been in this room for about what? Ten minutes now? I knew my father would come back to finish this conversation. I didn't want to see him.

Only the Heavens knew what I would do if he tried to talk to me about getting married again.

I needed to get out.

I retrieved a bag and started to stuff whatever food I had into it and whatever else I needed. The doorknob turned with no luck in it opening.

I thanked myself for locking the door and quickly surveyed my room if there was anything else I needed.

"Skyler! Open up." My father shouted but I ignored him and grabbed my bow and arrow.

I tugged on my gloves as I headed towards the window. The frost that covered it made it easier to break when I punched it.

The cold rushed in with full force and whacked me in the face, ridding my body of breath. Just as I moved the glass away from the frame, my door was broken down and there stood my father, Anvis, and a couple of his fighters.

And Lucas.

His eyes looked tired and worried - worried for 𝘮𝘦. I haven't seen him for what felt like a long time. I wondered how tired he must really be. His eyes pleaded with mine. He knew what I was about to do.

"𝘞𝘰𝘭𝘧!" someone shrieked as they all now turned their unwanted attention to Claw.

My heart dropped.

Not even a second later, I jumped out of the large building and into what must've been two meters of deep snow. Claw followed straight after.

I hoisted myself out of the snow and checked to see if I was still in one piece. I tried to stand up but got pushed back down by the force of the blizzard.

𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘸.

Did he make it?

I pushed forward in the wind and called out his name until I saw a big fluff-ball bounce up and down in the thick snow. I made my way towards him and scanned for any injuries.

My tense shoulders eased when I was satisfied that he was okay. Squinting up at my window, I didn't see any faces or hear any voices.

I knew they were coming.

"Let's go." I signalled for Claw to stop playing in the snow and to follow me.

My face stung so 𝘣𝘢𝘥𝘭𝘺 from the cold that my eyes teared up. I also couldn't feel my ears. I didn't want them to find me.

I knew the snow would cover up my tracks, so I went where no one else would dare to go at this time of the season.
