The bell rang through the halls signaling the start of a new school year. The students hustled through the hallways getting to their homeroom classes. Aside from the Student Council members. One by one, they walked into the Council Office. "Rae!" Yasmin, the Student Council Treasurer, screamed with excitement. She crossed the room and jumped into the arms of her best friend. The two girls laughed then began talking about their summer vacations. This year, for the first time, they didn't spend their summer break together.
Niko, the Student Council Vice President, walked into the room with a bored expression on his face. He glanced over at the girls, then narrowed his eyes at them. "Ugh, can you girls keep it down? So, annoying," he muttered. Raina, the Student Council Secretary, scowled at him then huffed with irritation. "Will it kill you to be nice for once, Nikolas?" She stood in front of him then crossed her arms across her chest. Niko shifted his gaze down at her chest for a second, then back to her face. Her eyes widened and her cheeks flushed red.
"You are such a perv!" Niko chuckled while watching her storm off, then venting to Yasmin. "Settle down children," Skylar, the Student Council President, said trying to defuse the situation. He sighed and looked at Niko, pointedly. Giving him a silent warning to behave. Niko wore a smirk on his face and shrugged his shoulders.
"Hey guys, sorry I'm late!" Adriel, the Student Council Historian, walked in with his uniform unbuttoned, tie hanging loosely around his neck, and his hair all disheveled. Yasmin blushed at the sight of him. "Slept in?" Raina teased with a playful smile on her face. Adriel laughed and sat on the desk behind the girls, "You know me so well, little lady." Yasmin giggled watching the two tease each other—feeling a little jealous of how they can easily tease each other. She blushed when he shifted his gaze and winked at her.
Skylar stood in front of the class, then gestured for the two new members to join him. "Morning everyone. Today, we have two new committee members," all eyes focused on the two nervous girls. Skylar gave them an encouraging smile. The browned hair girl took a deep breath. "Hi everyone. My name is Maisie and I'm a freshman," she said softly. The girl next to her squeezed her shoulder gently and a smile formed on her face. Maisie appreciated the gesture.
"Good morning. I am Penelope, but I prefer being called Penny. I am a sophomore transfer," she introduced herself with confidence, tucking her red hair behind her ear. "I'm basically a newbie but I can't wait to get to know you all!" Her eyes shift over to Niko, whose just staring out of the window bored. Skylar thanked them and ushered the girls to take a seat before diving into discussing the plan for the school year. Niko noticed the girl from before, named Penny, from the corner of his eye sat at the desk next to him. She looked at him with a smile on her face. Uninterested, he continued looking out of the window. Penny shook the frustration away, refusing to give up. When she set her mind onto something, she will do anything she can to obtain it.
"Alright guys, we have about ten minutes left before the first class starts. So I'll let you guys mingle," Skylar said cheerfully. "Please make our new members feel welcome." Raina and Yasmin chatted away, making plans for the school year. "I am so excited about prom," Yasmin said, subtly shifting her gaze over to Adriel. Whose chatting with Skylar and Niko. A smile creeped onto Raina's face. "Ooh…" Yasmin's eyes widened, embarrassed with being caught staring once again. "Please don't say anything, Rae," she whispered to her best friend.
Penny walked over to the two girls whispering to each other. "Hi girls!" She greeted them with a smile on her face. The blonde girl looked up at her with a flushed face and waved at her shyly. "Hi," she squeaked. Penny continued to smile and introduce herself once again. "It's so nice to meet you. I am Yasmin, uh, and I'm a senior and the treasurer." Penny shook her hand and turned to look at the girl with bright, red hair next to her. "Hey, I'm Raina. I'm a senior too and the secretary," she said with a dazzling smile. Penny didn't expect to be quite taken with her. Her green eyes seemed to sparkle, drawing Penny in. A deep, husky voice snapped her out of a trance-like spell. "Acts like a child though."
Penny's heart feels like it's about to beat right out of her chest. A guy has never made her feel this way. The tall, dark haired boy sat on the edge of Raina's desk, teasing her. A pang of jealousy made her heart ache. Pushing it aside, she shifted her focus to the handsome boy. "Hi, what's your name?" She asked sweetly, a flirtatious smile formed on her face. "Sup. It's Niko," he said cooly, his voice sending tingles down her spine. "Nice to meet you," she said softly.
Niko nods his head, not paying the new girl any attention. Instead, he decided to eavesdrop on the girls' conversation. Being presented with an opportunity to mess with Raina, he walked around the desk to stand behind her. Penny looked at him with confusion, her smile unwavering. He placed his finger against her lip, gesturing her to not say anything. Knowing that Raina was deathly ticklish, he barely had to touch the back of her neck—the most ticklish spot—to get a reaction.
Raina screamed when she felt a tingling sensation from the back of her neck. She was super ticklish. Setting her eyes on the culprit, Niko, whose doubled over in laughter. "You son of a b—," she moved to lunge at him but Adriel had caught her by the waist. Suddenly, the bell rang, dismissing the students to their next class. Niko winked at her then swiftly walked out of the classroom.
"Adriel, why?" She asked, annoyed. He laughed and ruffled up her hair. She swatted his hand away trying to stay mad but she couldn't stay mad at him. He's like a big teddy bear.
Penny felt annoyed. Niko barely cared about interacting with anyone other than the senior members of the council. Nonetheless, she is not one to give up. One thing she is sure of though is that she does not like Raina.
