Chapter 15 - Breakfast

Streaks of faded sunlight emerged across the Prussian blue blanket. The young, elvish woman was lying comfortably in the queen sized bed. Her chest rose up and down slowly as she slept soundly. Her wavy, sea green hair was scattered messily across the sky blue pillow. She was wearing her beige, linen nightgown which suited her warm ivory skin. A creak was heard coming from the cream white door as it opened up slowly. Her eyelids fluttered open as she was suddenly awoken. She shifted her upper body towards the origin of the sound as her eyes focused on the door. Her vision was still blurry as she observed the door open and a tall figure step into the room.

"Oh sorry," said Saphrin as she came into the room holding a metal tray, "Did I wake you, dear?"

Once she recognized the sound of her voice, Caspery smiled softly and shook her head. "Yes, but it's alright." She sat up and rubbed her eyes. Saphrin quietly closed the door behind her before walking over to the bed. She sat down and carefully placed the tray a few inches in front of Caspery. The tray contained two plates of food along with a white teacup, a porcelain teapot, a saucer, a tiny pitcher of sugar, a tiny pitcher of milk, a folded stack of white napkins, and a teaspoon. One plate contained a folded omelette with tiny pieces of finely chopped vegetables in it along with a side of four inch Cumberland sausage. The second plate had two puff pastries, one was filled with mixed berry jelly and the other was filled with cinnamon pear butter. Both pastries looked very soft and were covered in powdered sugar. Caspery yawned as she stretched out her arms and back before scratching her head.

"What's this?" Asked the elvish woman as she looked down at the tray, observing the warm, delicious smelling food.

"Breakfast." Saphrin smiled as she took out a large napkin and tucked the edges into the collar of the elvish woman's nightgown.

"Yes, I can see that," Caspery began, "But why?"

"Can't I just do something really nice for my girlfriend?" The lass chuckled, "Besides," she picked up the teapot and began pouring some of the fragrant, hot liquid into the little teacup, "You've been working so hard that I wanted to treat you to breakfast." Caspery looked over at the clock on the nightstand.

"At five fifteen in the morning?" She looked at the clock in surprise before facing the lass, "Did you wake the entire kitchen staff almost an hour early just to make me breakfast?" Asked Caspery, seeming very shocked.

"Of course not!" The lass chuckled. She stopped pouring the tea once the mocha brown liquid reached close to the top rim of the cup and set the teapot back down onto the tray.

"Oh," she looked down at the warm, freshly-made food and scratched her head, "Then how did you-"

"I made them myself." The lass proclaimed proudly. She picked up the tiny pitcher and faced Caspery, "Cream?"

The elvish woman nodded, "Yes please."

"Tell me when." Saphrin began pouring the cream into Caspery's cup.

"When." Said the elvish woman once her tea changed to a cornsilk beige color.

Saphrin put the little pitcher down and looked at Caspery, "Want some sugar?"

The woman nodded, "Sure!"

Saphrin leaned in and kissed her on the forehead. Caspery blushed a light shade of flamingo pink, yet she felt more joyful than embarrassed.

"What about your tea? Want some sugar for that?" Saphrin chuckled.

"Huh? Oh!" She reached over and grabbed the little pitcher of sugar, "I'll add it in myself but thanks!" She smiled before she began scooping up spoonfuls of sugar and pouring them into her drink.

Once it had enough sugar, she stirred it with the same spoon and took a little sip from her cup. She licked her lips after slowly pulling her face away from her cup, satisfied with the sweetness of her tea. She placed her cup back down onto the tray before picking up a knife and a fork. She started cutting into the omelette and lifted a piece of the fragrant, dandelion yellow food up to her mouth. She forked it into her mouth and her eyes widened at the taste of the food.

"Mm," she moaned softly, "This is really good, Saphrin! What's in it?"

"Why thank you!" Saphrin smirked, "For this recipe, I used eggs, heavy cream, thyme, rosemary, pepper, salt, onion, red bell pepper, spinach, and mushrooms."

"Oh," said Capsery, with a mouthful of food, "So that's what that thing with the leafy texture is." She swallowed the food in her mouth.

"By the way," Saphrin got up from the bed and walked over to the closet, "I got you a little something."

"Oh?" Caspery raised an eyebrow as she took a sip from her cup. Saphrin opened the closet door and took out a long, satin dress. The dress was a deep shade of emerald green with long, slightly puffy sleeves. The front of the collar was straight, flat, and low-cut. There was a black, lace trim around the cuffs, waist, and collar as well as a floral, lace pattern that covered a small, middle portion of the torso. She brought the dress over to Caspery and presented it to her.

"What do you think?" Asked Saphrin as she placed the dress on the bed, next to the elvish woman.

Caspery put her cup back down on the tray and looked over at the dress. She grabbed the wooden hanger and carefully picked it up. "This is so pretty!" Said Caspery, observing the dress in awe. She faced Saphrin and smiled, "Thank you!"

"No problem! But if I'm being honest," she rubbed the back of her neck as she sat back down, "Mairey is the one who helped me pick it out. She's a huge fashionista, not me." She chuckled.

"Mairey?" Caspery raised an eyebrow, "Who's that?"

"She's a friend of mine, we go way back."

"Just a friend?" She narrowed her eyes at the lass with a look of suspicion.

"Yes, dear," the woman nodded, "Just a friend."

Caspery's expression didn't seem to change, "Sure she is."

"Honey," the lass sighed, "She prefers men."

"Just men?"

"Yes," the lass nodded, "Just men."

"Oh," her face shifted into a calm, neutral expression, "Alright then." She looked down at her food and then faced the lass again, "Didn't you make anything for yourself?"

Saphrin shook her head, "Nope! I'm going to have breakfast with the Ferdims later."

"Oh," she looked down and frowned, "I see."

The lass placed her hand on Caspery's head and gently patted her, "Before I leave," she began slowly, "I wanted to tell you that you're not gonna be working at home today."

"Huh?" The elvish woman looked up at her and gave the lass a look of confusion, "How come?"

"Well you see," her hand moved down from the top of her head and stopped at her face as Saphrin caressed the elvish woman's cheek, "I asked Lord Ferdim if I can borrow you today so that I may get some help running errands and he allowed it."

She gasped "Really?" Caspery's eyes widened in joy, "That's great!" She then paused for a moment, "But," she scratched her head, "What kinds of errands do you need help with? I must warn you that I know nothing about swords and don't know how to take care of armor."

Saphrin shook her head, "No, no! We're not actually going to be running any errands today."

"Then what are we going to be doing today?" The elvish woman raised an eyebrow.

"We, my dear, will be going on a date." The lass smirked.

"A … A date?" Caspery gasped, "Well what are we going to be doing exactly? I mean," she looked down and rubbed the back of her neck, feeling a bit embarrassed, "I've never been on a date before."

"Don't worry," Saphrin chuckled as she placed the side of her index finger underneath Caspery's chin and picked it up, allowing the elvish woman to face the lass, "It won't be anything too complicated. We'll just go do some fun activities, maybe play some games, go for a nice walk in the woods, shopping, and dinner at a nice restaurant. That's why I bought you that dress. I want you to wear it for our date today."

"Oh, that sounds exciting!" Said Caspery, smiling, "I can't wait!" She then realized something and looked over at the clock, "Oh no!" She gasped, "It's almost time for the staff to wake up!"

"Well then I'll let you finish your breakfast in peace." She leaned in and the two women kissed each other deeply. Once Saphrin pulled her lips away from Caspery's face, she took a step back, "I'll pick you up at eight later this morning, alright?"

The elvish woman nodded, "Alright, I'll see you then."

Saphrin turned around and exited her bedroom, quietly closing the door behind her. Caspery quickly finished her food and slowly pushed the tray away from her before getting off of the bed. She walked over to her uniform, which was laying on the floor, and began to change into it. Saphrin reached into her pocket and pulled out a small box that was covered in royal blue colored fabric. She opened it up, revealing a gold ring which had a big, sapphire on top. The sapphire was surrounded by a circle of small diamonds. She smiled while looking down at the ring and spoke softly, "I can't wait either."
