I got right to work as soon as I woke up, we didn't have much time left before we were discovered again.
"Get going! Remember your teams! We set off tomorrow at dusk!"
My range had increased to 5 meters after my last breakthrough, but that wasn't enough to assemble the sails and wings from the ground, so I had to make passes on the ship with my Wyvern Wings to attach the masts.
"This is going to take all day, I have a better solution," I said, then I cupped my hands around my mouth and called out "Laaaaveeeki!"
"Yes, teach?" She slid down a rope and took off her goggles.
"I need your help, we're making a helicopter."
Laveki got visibly excited and started bouncing. "Really?! Where do we start?"
"Go get Fabiru, he will be your partner since you will need to build it from forged aluminum." I gathered some aluminum from the ground with flow manipulation and had one of the humans carry it to the workshop for her. "If there is anyone who can replicate a blueprint in less than a day, it's Fabiru."
"So what are my project requirements?" She asked, putting her goggles back on theatrically.
"The helicopter has to be able to carry one person and an engine. That's it, no cargo since we are trying to maximize flight time."
"Consider it done!"
Fire lit behind Laveki's eyes and she climbed back onto the airship.
"With that done, I have to make the engine compatible with the battery, plus fix the battery's flow leaking."
I already had the blueprints for the engine nearly done because I had anticipated the battery's existence, but I had to make it specifically compatible with the battery since there were things I didn't expect. For this, I called upon dad for help.
"Dad, I need your help." I forced myself to say. "I have to integrate one of your inventions into one of mine."
'Why is it so awkward asking for help from him, especially compared to Laveki?' I thought.
"Sure thing little one, just let me finish this." He whipped together a potion. "Keep it up alchemy team, Ingen's going to need this later."
Dad turned to me. "Your engine and my battery right?"
"Yes, we're building a helicopter to assist in the building process."
"I've been working at it on my end and you've been working on it on yours so this should be easy." He said as he opened his wings and beckoned for me to follow.
We flew in formation up to the deck and I set up a drafting table.
"The workshop is occupied by Laveki and Fabiru so we have no choice but to work here."
I sent an idler to grab my prototype engine and dad's battery. Once they arrived we got to work.
"What if we use wind Eneru to push the pistons up and down?" dad said.
"Pressure is a more accurate term for wind Eneru, but I think that thermal Eneru could work because you could increase and decrease the pressure in different pistons separately without excess Eneru."
"Which thermal Eneru? Fire or ice?"
"Oh yeah, I should probably introduce you to the real affinities to Eneru," I said with a smirk. "There is no such thing as fire or ice Eneru, they are one, I've dubbed it thermal Eneru. Wind Eneru can be used on Eneru-rich water so I renamed it pressure Eneru. I haven't any more tests with Eneru, but I will when I have time."
"Wow, Eneru is such a normal part of my life that I just assumed that what I was told in school was how Eneru worked. In that case, maybe thermal Eneru is the way to go, but I'd make it compatible with pressure too, double the fuel to draw on."'
"That will expand our timeframe, but shouldn't take too long."
I got to work making selnatite veins for the Eneru to travel along, they were insulated by a ceramic I combined with foam with alchemy so that it would be less brittle.
"The engine is ready for the battery, but the battery isn't ready for the engine, I'm sure you have thought some stuff up for that by now, right dad?"
"Yep, once again alchemy has failed me, so I turn to normal material science."
He showed me the battery, now coated in ceramic and a layer of fluff.
"Oh, well that was way more simple than what I had in mind."
"Yeah, make sure to not fixate on Eneru when you build things ok?"
"Yeah, let's test the engine."
I took the battery from him and set it into the engine. He filled the battery with his Eneru and it started up easily, but after a moment a flaw showed.
"Uh, we probably should've given it an off button right?" I said after it ran out of Eneru seven minutes later.
"That's easy, just a lever that engages the battery by differing amounts, for a helicopter it would be the collective, for a propeller it would be throttle."
We hooked up a lever and decided that it was good enough, by now it was midday so we didn't want to waste any more time.
"We just need to test it with thermal Eneru, I'll go fetch Bock." I jumped off of the ship and unfolded my wings.
'You can always see Bock from the air, he loves fire.' I flew to the orange dot near the scrap woodpile.
"Hey Bock, you're with me!" I scooped him up with my glider and flew him to the ship before he could say a word.
I landed on the deck and before he could speak I said: "We need you to fill this battery with your Eneru."
Bock blinked as his brain caught up with the situation. "Okay?" In a stupor, he put his hand onto the orb and filled it with his Eneru.
"Stand back!" I announced before I pulled the lever.
BANG!
The engine, somewhat predictably, exploded.
"Hmm, the difference between hot and cold must have stressed the metal too much. Perhaps we should stick to pressure for now."
With a wave of my hand the engine reassembled itself.
"We're done for today, we need this ready by the time Laveki and Fabiru are done with the airframe." I picked up the engine and made my way to the workshop.
I opened the door and set down my engine.
"What in the name of Order?"
