Chapter 15 - First Steps

I spoke the second command word for Golem Glass.

"Inspect"

Some of the weak spots in the armor of my first golem were shown, along with areas that were too thick for their importance or generally inefficient. After I modified those to be better I switched the focus of Inspect to the legs, where it showed weaknesses structure-wise and flaws in the formula for the alchemical enhancement. They would have to be redone completely.

Finally, the head and arms were up for inspection. The head was just not attached, so it was time to do that, and the arms were in working order and only required small adjustments to make them more Eneru efficient. In four days I was finally ready to assess the golem again.

Eneru Efficiency: 53% (Runtime: 10 hours before sleep mode)

Top Speed: 21 kilometers per hour

Coolant efficiency: 85%

Core Capacity: Greater

"YES!" My scream startled Professor James and Teo

"What are you yelling about!?" Teo looked like he just messed something up.

"Check it." I handed him my Spectacles of Insight, leaving Assess active.

"Wow! That's a decent golem."

Professor James came over and was clearly interested in Golem Glass, but wanted to see how it performed compared to a trained eye "Use it on your golem Teo, let's see how it works."

I grabbed the Specs back from Teo "Sorry, it only works for me."

"Not bad, but that coolant system is weak," I said

"No, everything about it is average, you are just inexplicably good at making coolant systems." Professor was starting to feed my ego.

"Either way, it could use some improvements, Assess."

Light appeared where the imperfections were and guided Teo to his flaws. When he finished, his golem was also considered Novice by Golem glass, but still wasn't as good as mine, except for armor, he managed to get 62% integrity.

"Alright, you've both made good enough golems, let's imprint them."

"Yes, professor!" Teo and I said in unison.

We opened the back of our golems and connected the spirit core via many vein-like pipes. I imprinted first. The golem had to be restrained for the process, as it would be frenzied while active and not imprinted. I put my hand on the core that I had just hooked up and gave it all my Eneru.

"Here goes!" I shouted above the sounds of metal against wood as my golem tried to free itself.

Suddenly that sound stopped and I gave my now-imprinted golem its first order.

"Bring me to my room Denny."

Golems could tap into your memories to find locations you know.

My golem, now known as Denny, picked me up from the floor and carried me out of school and towards Gond.

"My dorm dumbass!" I shouted at my confused golem who turned around and walked me to my dorm.

"Set me on my bed."

Denny tried turning around, presumably to take me to my bed in Gond, but I interrupted him with.

"This one!" I thought of my dorm room bed and Denny set me there.

After a short rest, I got up.

"Follow me at a distance of three meters and don't run into anyone or anything Denny." I had to be hyperspecific or Denny would misinterpret.

I walked in the direction of the Golemancy classroom to store Denny, but then I felt a familiar premonition of danger.

"Denny defend me!" I shouted just in time for him to step in front of a fiery wooden knife.

It made a tink sound as it bounced off of Denny's armor. I put out the knife and instantly knew who my assailant was.

"Do you ever get tired of suspensions? After this one, you will probably be expelled!" I shouted, ascertaining that it was probably Laura.

'Where is she? I can't see her.'

'She ran around that corner after I warned you' Spirit noted

"Denny, restrain her without hurting her."

I made some barriers of wind, a low pressure one to put out the flames, then a high pressure one to stop the knife. Denny disappeared around the corner and came back with a struggling red-head.

"Demon! Let me go!"

"In a minute, I have some questions for you, miss 'I'm gonna assassinate Ingen because he's got a beast mark.' First, why, are you just after Orin and my cores? Did a fox bite you when you were small? what?"

"I don't have to tell you!" She yelled defiantly

"I could easily break your arms if you don't."

It didn't take long for Laura to spill after that "I was just walking around the forest one day and that terrible 'Dread Fox' tried to kill me! It was totally unprovoked! If that doesn't prove they should be classified as demons I don't know what does!"

"I've met the Dread Fox, and I know why she attacked you, and she definitely didn't try to kill you sh-"

"What do you mean didn't try to kill me!? It shot ice at me!"

"If she tried to kill you, you would be dead. You wandered into her territory and she scared you off, simple as that. Plus, if trying to kill something unprovoked was a way to classify you as a demon, then you're the demon here, I'm just trying to go to school."

I turned my back to Laura and gave Denny an order.

"Release her and resume the last follow command."

We made it to Professor James's room without issue.
