In this world, everyone is born with half their DNA combined with the closest non-human by them. It could be a bug, a plant, or an animal. They are then put into one of two categories, Light or Dark.
For instance, take my mother over there....
She's currently fixing something on the roof. I look at her, and she notices me. Startled, she slips and falls. But don't worry, because this is just the time to tell you about us...
The moment she loses the roof, her eyes light up. She shifts. Slowly, feathers bud from her pores on her arms. It doesn't hurt, she's told me, so I don't worry as the wings form on her back. She takes to the air and flies. Her hair flows in the wind behind her. It's beautiful. Soon she's reached the floor. She's safe, no longer falling, not in any pain.
You see? My mother over there is an avian hybrid of light. Her arms and back can change into the wings of a bird. She can shift other parts into a bird-like resemblance too, but I find the wings the best. Isn't it beautiful?
And me? I don't know what spices I am. I'm what they call an anomaly here. No scientist or doctor knows why, but my hybrid species has not ever been seen before. But what ever I am came from something close enough to me where I was born. And that honestly scares me...
