Chereads / The Tale of the Lost World / Chapter 3 - -Arcana-

Chapter 3 - -Arcana-

Similar from all the fantasy stories that I've heard, this world exhibits arcane spells that are widely used across the world. According to the documents written from the books resting on the shelf, the people living in Terra discovered magic way back 500 years ago, long before the war had ever started. Through the course of time, humans and other species were in search to dominate the land. Akin to our world, war became the solution for their dispute; and up to this date, the never ending war have yet to cease its end. According to the book of demons, our kind had been hunted down for hundreds of years by numerous mercenaries provided by the kingdom of humans. Some of the species living on the country side of the human land had already formed their alliance. As for the demon kind, their proposition to form our treaty was severely neglected due to the order of the humans, specifically the holy church that serves as their religion, to vanquish the evil doers lurking across the lands.

As stated by the book, arcane power can be found anywhere from our surroundings. My theory would be that this miniscule energies are the ones responsible for absorbing these arcane power inside each individuals, hence the people living in this world are able to manipulate mana itself.

Studying the illustration portrayed from the book, a chant must be said in order to accumulate the arcane matter and use it according the user's imaginations.

Furthermore, there 4 natural elements known in this world: Namely fire, water, wind, and earth. There are other elements that can be only utilised by special magus and species such as the holy light—an element that purifies curses and such; and darkness—that enables rituals, curses, and profane prowess.

Demons are the best carriers of the dark element. Elves on the other hand are able to control the holy light element, and their teachings was recently passed down to the human kind.

Just as the book have mentioned; elves, dwarfs, dragons, and other mythical creatures exists on this planet. Therefore, each of their class holds specific elements of their nature.

Despite being a 1 year old baby boy (I'm already 42 years old, though), I desperately carried the book and crawled my way towards my personal space, my bedroom. Both of my parents were busy doing their stuff or should I say, chores, to maintain the cleanliness of this house.

My mother became a housewife after she gave birth to me. She is currently cooking inside the kitchen's floor, preparing our next meal. My father, on the other hand, is a proud knight that serves directly to the demon lord. My family's lineage was surprisingly from the lower class nobles amongst the lesser demon lords, which came from their previous ancestors who took part from the previous clashes against the dreadful cascade. Demons life span ranges from 600-1000 years old, closely related from the elves longevity. My parent's age are still unknown to me.

Moving on, I step foot right beside my crib and began rummaging to the words written on the book. The chant is a bit lengthy to be hastily vocalised during constant battles.

It was a good thing that I am now fluent in speaking the demon language. I am able to write, read, and converse to their common tongue. The language was a bit tricky for me to learn, however learning something out of necessity became a habit way back from my adolescence age, from my previous life. Soon, I may be able to run down the numerous lingos of the humans (this world's humans), elves, dwarfs, and the dragon's, if I would be blessed with a chance to converse with their respectful species.

"Come forth, o' bright ember from arcane. Heed my call and light up my whole palm and unravel the mysteries of this dim world" Despite my occasional stutters, soon enough the orange light began enveloping the surface of my palm. The temperature around my hand suddenly arise at approximately 3,000 degrees, but was still unable to inflict any sort burn on my delicate skin. The blaze itself felt as if it was an extension connected within my body. With sheer practise, I may be able to enhance and manipulate the power and extent of the arcane. Personally, the chant itself was a bit too long to adhere. Before I could even finish my phrase, an assassin or a warrior would soon finish me off and hastily cut my speech mid-way.

"This is a problem…" I placed my hand at the bottom of my chin and ponder on the possibilities on how to shorten the chant.

I tried repeating the phrase once more, this time without uttering a single word. The spell will be presented inside my mind as I conceptualise the very image of the common fire.

Although my hand have turned red from the flames it had produced, the ember was less powerful from before. Does the chant amplifies the property of the flame itself? Or was I dependent on the arcane gathering around my hands?

Once again, I readied my palm and silently thought about the same spell. However, this time the idea of the scientific elements of carbon dioxide, water vapour, oxygen, and nitrogen are circling inside my brain. It was arduous enough for me to depict these small matter, but the idea itself is carved inside the spell.

On the surface of my palm, a blue light suddenly emerged as it immensely brighten the whole room. However, the flame from my hand was too powerful for me to grab. Thus the blue ember was accidentally knocked over by the rustling wind and eventually crashed against the wooden floor.

The materials used inside our house are flammable to begin with, thus I began to sweat profoundly out of fear of burning the entire abode.

I immediately survey my surroundings and locate whatever item I can use to unlit the rabid fire from scattering its flames outside.

I saw a dried blanket resting from atop of the antique wooden blanket. Even so, my body was in no position to reach the outrageous height from where the blanket was rested.

With no time to lose, I raise out my hand and quivery aimed at the initial embers on the floor.

I imagine a river flowing out from my palm. The waves of the azure liquid would be enough to be an alternative fire extinguisher in this world.

The smog from smoulder soon began to subside, and the fire was no more to be seen. Luckily, the fumes have yet to reach the opened windows of the room. The damaged dealt was kept in to a minimum, and so I had thought; as my parents hastily rushed over upstairs and began inspecting the origin of the smoke, especially the wellbeing of their child.

"My dear, are you hurt!"

"What happened here?!"

In this world, it is normal for a baby to be nameless until he or she would reach an acceptable age. If the child is able to speak, understand, and write their mother tongue, it is likely that that child would be bestowed with a proper name.

As for I, I kept my prowess hidden from my parents that I was capable of speaking their common language. My guts have told me that my ability to learn the language quicker among my peers would exceed everyone's expectations and soon suspect me from my origins. I am not a part of this world. I am just a wander who had happened to stumble upon a lucky couple who were unlucky to conceive a child.

My mother, Clara Dagon, rushes to my fore and immediately caress my soft and fragile head. The feeling was akin from my mother, back from my world, who passed way from a disease that struck her from her old age. It was a nostalgic feeling being doted over once again by my (technically) blood relative 'parents'. Then, there's my dad, Razor Dagon, a bulky man who always has his swords rested on his leather sheath, as he soon began studying the whole room for any sort of turbulence that can easily spark the next possible disaster. Satisfied from the environment, he shifted his gaze and sighs in relief as he saw me and my mum bracing with each other's warmth. Her tears started flowing like a river. A mother's love cannot be compared from any sort of care whether you're in different worlds.

Eventually, her tears came in to a halt, which had also made her eyes puffed out from her emotional distress from my wellbeing. Soon, she places me back from my crib and noticed the small mark on the wooden floor and its unknown source of water soaked parallel from where they've found my body.

"Dear, I think our son is abl to produce arcane already"

"Impossible…or, did he inherited my genetic intelligence?! AS EXPECTED FROM MY SON"

My dad abruptly raised me sky high and threw my body closest to the ceiling. Fortunately, he was still able to catch me from hiss toss, however my mother and I was not that merry from his actions.

"Dear…." Clara gently calls the attention of her husband.

Razor whimpers hysterically as he placed my tender body back gently on the soft and warm blanket of the crib.

"Yes, honey?" He quivers down in fright and began grovelling down on the floor as if in a dogeza position (traditional Japanese etiquette which involves kneeling directly on the ground).

"You won't be having dinner for tonight!" Clara storms off from the room as she stomps her feet heavily on the ground. Razor follows suit as he begs her once more from her delicious meal she had prepared, since the meat she had stewed was from a prey that Razor personally hunted.

Amused, I went back to sleep and hugged my pillow like the baby who I used to be~

The same night that the incident had happened, I was alerted by a sudden noise calling out inside my head. The sound was akin to a computer-generated voice…
