The sun, resting high in the sky, beamed its warm rays upon her face, kissing her cheeks and warming her eyelids. It was not often that she could enjoy a day such as this and she reveled in it.

She stretched out, melting into the warm, hard wooden bench beneath her. It wasn't deemed very ladylike to be so casual. But then, Alexa was no lady.

Birds sang from the trees above and butterflies danced along the lavender bushes. She lazily flitted her thick lashes in the beaming sunlight.

Raised in servitude, it was not often that she was permitted free time - let alone any time to enjoy a day in the garden. So when Miss Gentry, the castle's cook and her adoptive mother of the past 17 years, informed her she had a free day, Alexa did not hesitate to leap from her bed in the corner of their meek cottage, toss on her meager dress and go out and enjoy it.

Little did she know what the day ahead would have in store for her.
