Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

"Alice! Alice!" she heard Nacht's familiar voice call out to her. Her eyes fluttered open, and she flinched when she faced the red head alive and well. She pushed him back, messily touching her body trying to find if she was injured anywhere.

Was that it? Were they really dead and they met in the afterlife? That could be the only possible explanation after all because she was certain she had seen Nacht dead, here lying on the grass before she, herself was pushed of the window. The terror she felt was still too intense to forget and the view of his palm before it touched her face, pushing her off was vivid enough, she could feel the pressure of his fingers.

"How? How am I alive? I…I saw you…" she mumbled confused as she noticed Nacht looking at her with a worried expression.

"What are you talking about? I was searching for the intruder when I found you here, sleeping. Didn't the twins tell you to stay inside?" He said raising his voice.

Alice shook her head, confused. What? That wasn't what had happened. She was certain. How could she end up sleeping there? She heard the sounds, the crashing and then she saw Nacht, his image was still alive on her mind. It was terrifying. She stood up, getting away from Nacht and she entered the tower. Climbing up the stair impatiently until she reached Nacht's floor, panting. She opened his door, getting inside to see the room perfectly fine. No evidence of a fight. The window was there, no blood on it and the bed looked as good as new.

She frowned, wrinkling her nose as all of her thought tumbled in her head. Something was wrong, terribly wrong and it was either her or the whole situation. She walked slowly towards Nacht's bed, sitting on it to rest, trying to put her thoughts in order. Could this be some kind of sleepwalking experience? Then when did she fall asleep? She clearly remembered the twins running off her room.

"What is going on Alice?" she heard Nacht's voice as he caught up to her and returned to his room. "What happened?"

"I…I don't know. After the twins left I could swear I heard loud noises from your room, like a fight was going on and I rushed downstairs to see if I could help you but the place was trashed and empty so I headed towards the window. There was blood on it and you…you were down there dead! When I turned around a man appeared. The assassin and he pushed me off. That's what happened." She trained to explain while Nacht was looking at her with a questioning look. His head was tilted to the side, his eyes focused on her as her full lips moved but he didn't seem to be convinced. He took a few steps towards her, sitting to her side and caressing her cheek.

"It's okay. It is probably an aftereffect of what Saaha did. The assassin ran away but he was never here. I saw you sleeping on the floor while I was inspecting the area. I was really worried about you. You should have stayed in bed until Erica told you it was okay to get up, powers that mess with people's head are troublesome. Saaha she…dammit." Nacht said and hit his fist on the mattress.

"It's…fine. Don't worry. I will just go and rest I guess." Alice said still slightly confused. Could Saaha's powers cause something like that as an after effect? She wondered as the scene replayed vividly on her mind. It felt too real to be a dream but as it was clear she wasn't dead nor was Nacht, something that would have resulted if her dream was actually reality. She stood up, disoriented and smiled at him, hoping that he would cease to worry about her so much.

"Alice, are you really okay? If you need anything I…"

"It's fine. You don't need to worry. You said it yourself it's only an aftereffect. I will get some sleep and I will be fine. It's a shame the intruder wasn't caught though. It could be dangerous."

"We will enforce the guards. No one will get hurt. I promise." Nacht said when a knock was heard. The door was open and the King was standing on the frame waiting for Nacht.

"Alice how are you feeling?" he asked her.

"I am good. I just need rest."

"Good. Get some sleep. From tomorrow Nacht will begin to train you. Please forgive me for your unpleasant first day." He said and he actually looked like he meant it. Alice considered Julius as a very strict person who wouldn't care about her. His eyes were honest though causing her to smile.

"It's alright. Please excuse me for now." She said bowing slightly, hoping that was right etiquette and she heard Nacht chuckle. Her cheeks began burning and she rushed outside embarrassed. It was her fault that she wanted to be polite!

"I take it that everything has been cleared?" Nacht said and the King nodded.

"That man is tied in the dungeon. He was clearly after you." Julius said and the man nodded with a smirk.

"Well as you can see he failed. I will deal with him and get you some info. I bet you would want that. Know Nyx's secrets." He teased him with a smile and the king sighed.

"I am glad you are alright" He said and Nacht patted his shoulder.

"You won't be getting rid of me so easily. So I will be going now. Excuse me my king" he said jokingly and made an extravagant bow that made the King laugh.

"Nacht…" he called his name, the read head turning to look at him. "…for how long will you keep lying to her? If I found out she will too."

"You are just too smart and observant Julius. Anyways it's not the right time yet. Soon she will know."
