Chapter 3 - The Armored Knights

Ashryn lunges forward and pierces a guard's neck while Egill puts me down and drew his axe. "Can you fight lad?" Egill looks directly at me.

"Yeah" I replied shortly, no hesitation. Egill nods and hands me a stiletto knife with a leather handle and charges forward to meet the guards surrounding Ashryn.

I still feel the excruciating pain from earlier, but the alcohol that guard poured on to me soothed it just enough for me to ignore. I get up, grip the knife and look forward

I see Ashryn taking on two guards, piercing one through his eye and slashing the other's neck. Egill is stampeding towards the scaffolding with two bowmen, who struggles to pierce Egill's armor with their arrows.

Ashryn deflects an arrow and parries a strike from her left, leaving her right open. A guard ran towards her with his spear. Driven by nothing but adrenaline and rage, I spring forward and stabbed the guard's neck before his spear even grazed my savior. I push forward and dropped h on his back and took his spear. Ashryn, after dealing with the guard to her left, pushes me away. Her sudden push rolls me sideways as I hear the ground break from the impact of an armored guard's axe.

I tried to get up but the beating from earlier gave me vertigo, I fall to my knees massaging my temples. I heard a crash to my right side, I see the scaffolding earlier broken and in pieces on the ground. The bowmen caught in the ruin was buried under the pile of wood and nails. One bowman rose up, then Egill stomped the ground and winds his axe back, slashing forward beheading the bowman with incredible force.

I try to get it together, Ashryn couldn't penetrate the armored guard's chest plate or helmet. The rest of the armored guards slowly drew closer shields forward and axes winded backwards, stomping the ground under the heavy weight of their equipment.

I sprint towards Ashryn, slashing the armored guard's hough which was left open for movement. The armored guard screeched as he sets his axe down and drops his shield, bending on his right knee "Get his nape!" The armor the guard wore has tiny openings for free movement. The nape, armpits, groin and hough, behind the knee.

Ashryn twirls behind the armored guard, now kneeling in agony. She slashes the small, grey-white opening in between the armor's collar and the helmet's end. Blood gushes out of the ripped cloth and open wound, the guard grunts and hits the ground.

"Ashryn! Lad! We have to go!" Egill yells out, guarding against one of the armored guard's axes. We both ran towards Egill, now knowing their weakspots, we can aim for any of them while running. It was perfect

"Agh!" Ashryn screams out and drops to the ground, I look back and see an arrow pierced through her left ankle. "Ashryn!!" Egill screams but the armored guard pushed through his defense. The bowman who shot her started reloading another bolt until Egill steps back and looks at me in the corner of his eye

"Lad! Get her out of here, I'll hold them off!" I instantly nodded and moved, I threw the stiletto at the bowman's chest and he flings backwards. Ashryn grunts and grips my shoulders as I put my arms around her waist, holding her arm that's hoisted around me. "Egill, come on!" Ashryn screams as I drag her toward the entrance. Egill is fighting two armored guards, parrying each attack from both sides without moving from his spit "Just go Ashryn!"

Ashryn places her right foot on the ground and pushes me away, but I strengthened my grip and started to pull her away further from the fight. "Let go of me! Egill's going to die there!" She screams nonstop. I hear Egill's armor getting broken "I ain't gonna die here by the hands of these gobshites" He shouts and lets out a hardy laugh as he winds his axe back and strikes one of the guards' chestplate, pushing him and his companion backwards. Egill slashes forward, delivering a heavy blow to the armored guard's helmet, making him fall backwards to his companion who staggers from the sudden weight of his companion's armor

Egill turns and runs toward us "Quit gawking and run!" Ashryn smirks and drops her weight to me, making it easier to support

We ran out the entrance to an open field. A forest so thick of trees and vines was in view nearby, just a few walks away. Ashryn points toward it, "There" it was dark and misty. However we're already grasping at straws. There's no way else, so we ran towards the woods.

I didn't notice that the nearer we were the more heavy my eyes were, it was like I was sleep deprived for days and only now was I allowed to sleep. I can't remember anything else, my adrenaline wore off and everything went white once again. I heard a faint noise from Ashryn as she shook my body, her face in distort. Egill arrived and looked down at my face, they were frantically looking back, forward and back to me. The last thing I heard was muffled noise and a pounding headache.

I fell asleep.
