"Jean..."
Her shoulders sagged in relief and she didn't realize her legs had given out and she was headed for the ground until she saw Jean rushing forward and catching her in his arms. And they both stood in each other's embrace for a few long, silent moments while Ivy sobbed into his shoulder, his arms wrapped tightly around her in a protective stance.
"Why didn't you tell me you were back?" Jean finally broke the silence, the emotions in his voice and face unreadable.
"I wanted to surprise you." Ivy responded, her voice quiet and shaky as she sobbed and then the police sirens could be heard in the distance. They were so close already.
"You called the police?" Jean asked as they pulled away from each other, Ivy still holding on to his arm.
"Yes." She nodded, her bottom lip trembling as she held Jean's unreadable eyes. He had grown so much since the last time she saw him. "I'm so sorry. I had no idea what to do. I-"
