Jean smiled at Scarlett. "I love you." He said, over the menu in his hands and he truly did, despite the heaviness of the weight of the secrets he was keeping from her weighing down his heart at that moment. Secrets he couldn't tell her. No, he would not tell her. He knew knowing was far worse that not knowing and he would keep her safe even if it meant losing his life.
He would gladly lay down his life for hers in a heartbeat, with no second thoughts. He only wished that things didn't have to be this way. That they didn't have to fight and struggle so much just to be together. And he wondered just how long she could hold on before she got tired and finally let go. Of him, and what they shared.
