The drive down to the hospital took longer than usual because it was Monday—a working day— and the traffic was heavier than usual. Scarlett arrived at the hospital, still pissed and thinking about changing hotels and Kelly was already at the hospital, sitting on one of the metal chairs in the ICU waiting room with her legs crossed and her head buried in her chest.
"Hey,"
Kelly looked up at Scarlett's voice.
"The doctor has asked to see you." She spoke, unable to meet Scarlett's eyes as she looked away from her, watching a nurse rolling a trolley into the ICU.
"Okay. Is everything alright with you?" Scarlett asked, a bit worried about how visibly drained and exhausted Kelly looked and also feeling guilty about how much she had put her through on this impromptu trip that was originally supposed to be a vacation but had turned into whatever this was.
