He had too much of an advantage over her with a gun in such an open space and She was practically a lamb and he was a lion, and she was trapped in his lair. Hiding in the woods would give her a much better chance at dodging a gun-shot than staying there in the open would. And so she ran and kept running, despite the screaming pain in her thighs and ankles.
"Stop running!" Vito was screaming behind her and he sounded like he was running after her already but she didn't stop. She couldn't stop. The woods still seemed so so faraway, but she had come this far. She couldn't stop now. It would be foolish to stop now.
"Stop running, you stupid bitch! I'll shoot! I'll fucking shoot!"
He sounded so close now. Like he was right behind her and her legs were starting to give out, her heart kept banging against her chest like it wanted to burst out and tears had started to pour out of her eyes in pain and frustration. But she still did not stop.
