Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9:Survey...

"W-What's THIS!!!...." Raymond gasped with shock.

"What's wrong?"

Canute and the Elysian mage were approaching him from behind.

"The pictures...MOVE!!" Raymond choked.

"Oh. It's no big deal." the mage said unfazed.

"Care to elaborate on it 'bop cut'?"Raymond demanded.

" The names Jason."The mage retorted.

"Tch! Whatever." he snorted.

" Amazing! I never imagined that books like these existed here. They describe everything as if you are there."

Canute's eyes gleamed.

"It's an ancient sorcery. Some even come out of the book for stimulation." Jason took out a book and opened it. To Raymond's surprise, The content of the book started floating in the air.

"It is the direct order from the emperor to revive the lost magic in modern times." Jason continued.

"The law was proposed by the crowned princess herself."

"The crowned Princess...hmm Suri von Arcania," Canute mumbled under his hand.

"Yo blue head! we're heading up." Raymond's voice came across the entrance of the library.

Canute hurried along with them.

They reached the eighth floor. There was a single door made of ebony wood.

The door opened itself after Jason stretched out his hand over the wolf shaped bronze lock.

"This is the meeting hall for the mages of the city. All the mages gather in the main tower and hold a conference to discuss the crisis of the city."

"The room seems to be unused."Raymond interfered.

" Due to the current situation, mages do not go out often. The chaos ridden feed on the mana of a person. Those having a high amount of mana are most vulnerable to those Mountain beasts. Unless they know how to protect themselves."

A chill went down Canute's spine as he asked.

"So all those mages that died had their mana sucked out?"

" Precisely. Eighteen mages of this main tower were killed. So it's unimaginable that the mages of sub-towers around the border survived."Jason replied.

"Those towers were left unguarded?" Canute glared coldly at Raymond.

"Oi! Don't give me that look. Our knights have contributed to the mages to protect Elysia. Many lives have been lost during the process." Raymond said scratching his head. His deep brown eyes showed a sign of remorse and agony.

" Who knew that this cold-hearted commander had a soft spot?"Canute thought relieved.

"We've been receiving help from the Elysian knights for quite some time. I give my gratitude to them for lending us their help."

Jason bowed deeply thanking Raymond.

"Well, it's no big deal. Its all part of our duty."

Raymond turned his head away to hide his happiness.

"Let's get going."

They reached the ninth floor. There again was a single door. It looked much sturdier than the last one. It opened allowing them to enter the room.

"This is the Alchemical laboratory. Mages practice new sorts of spells and other magic."

Jason said as he was greeted by many other mages present in the room.

"We are currently focusing on developing our weapons for the knights against the Chaos-ridden beasts."

"Amazing! Is that a cannon?" Raymond popped in. His eyes gleamed with excitement.

"Indeed. But it's a replica of the original version. But these cannons require a high amount of mana. We used mana stones from the northern mountains. But now we are limited to them and human mana is being used. It could endanger a person's life." Jason shook his head sadly.

" The original ones are set on the top floor of the tower for long-range attacks."

Canute looked out of the window. It was already past noon and they were only able to investigate the main tower.
