White vampires really are a thing. And they were supposed to feed on other vampires. That's why the hunters have many logs about them: they were allies! Kind of. It's not clear how much the hunters relied on the white vampires, but they used each other for a while.
What I'm most curious about, at the moment, is how the war started. I've heard a few discordant versions, and the one that seems to know something more about it is Robert. From his words, I guess he was there when someone made a mistake. Or he was near enough to witness.
Even the trap set for his wife and him makes more sense if one considers his nature and potential involvement.
