I wake as if it's an emergency, as if sleeping had become a dangerous thing. My heart beats fast and there is a buzzing in my brain as my eyes scanned my surroundings in a hurry. I was on a couch in the living room of Carina's house and I was alone. I bury my face in my hands, trying to get my heavy breathing and racing heart under control. Everything that happened before I fell asleep flashed through my mind; baking an apple pie with Cheri, watching a movie with Tara and Laleh, playing a board game with Hae In, Cheri, Tara, Laleh, Lorenzo and Ezra for two hours while eating apple pie. But I couldn't remember what I had been dreaming about which woke me up. All I know was that it scared me.
