Chapter 49 - Chapter Forty-eight

At around midnight, I was still awake and staring up the ceiling when my phone rang. I quickly answered the call without looking at the caller so as not to disturb Bridget who had slept late trying to comfort me. I was sure my eyes were really puffy after all the tears I shedded. After coming out from Mom and Dad's room, I met Bridget hugging and whispering soothing words to a bawling William who had been so scared from all the yelling. I felt sorry for causing him that pain, it was the first time something like that had happened.Β 

"Hello." I quietly spoke into the phone, my voice slightly hoarse.

"Alex." I recognized Sam's voice as he slurred. "I need you to come pick me up." He burped. There was the distinct sound of music in the background. He was at a party no doubt, but he had walked outside to make this call.

"What? Are you drunk?" Yeah, he obviously was if he was asking me to come pick him up by this time when I didn't even have a car.
