Chapter 37 - Chapter Thirty-six

When Dad picked us up from school, he was all smiles.

"Is there some good news, Dad?" I asked him from my position in the front seat, looking out the car window as we sped past students who were walking home. 

"Yeah, Uncle". Bridget Put in. "You've been smiling to yourself ever since".

He chuckled, there was something no doubt. "If I spill the beans now, the surprise will be ruined. Let's get home first".

"A surprise?" Bridget was already excited.

I on the other hand was not moved. I did not want to expect something special only to be disappointed at the end. The last time he mentioned a surprise, it was a dinner he prepared. A burnt and overly seasoned one might I add. It was all rocks and coal. That evening we ate bread and went to bed.
