♦Selena's POV♦
It all happens in slow motion, I turn to her to see fire dripping from her hands like some sick joke. There's a horrified look on her face that I'm sure matches the one I'm sporting.
Cyril and Neruda comes up behind her.
"You have powers?"
"I-I..." She stutters staring at her hands in horror. "I don't know." She looks so lost and confused like she's about to cry and my heart wrenches.
"Watch out!" Neruda shoves her out of the way and at the same time lights his hands up, taking care of the dark things in a matter of minutes.
I rush to September even though I'm very injured. "Hey, hey. Look at me." I raise her sobbing face up, her fire dripping hands warming up the cold that the dark guys had left with me. "You're fine. Shit!" I swear, holding my wrist as a drop of fire falls on it.
She blinks and quickly scrambles away. "No." She gasps, shaking her head, clutching her burning hands to herself, I'm scared her clothes are going to get burnt.
"Stay away from me please. I-I don't want to hurt you." She sobs.
Cyril tries moving closer to her before she manages to crawl into the ocean but the fire just gets bigger.
♦September's POV♦
I inch backwards again, clutching my hands together.
I think I'm going crazy, I think I'm nuts.
Because there's fire dripping from my hands, I hold my hands out so I don't set myself on fire although it doesn't hurt.
"September..." Selena tries to reach for me again and I panic, moving closer to the ocean. Maybe --- maybe if I get in the water I'll stop and then I can think.
Then I can get my head around the fact that I have actual powers.
I've waited for them for so long, I'd given up. I was the outcast, the queer one. The strange princess of the royal vampire family.
I step in to the ocean, it's cold. At least I think it's cold, my head is a foggy mess, snippets of childhood memories that never happened flashing through my mind.
It's all a mess, I dip my hands in the water but the fire doesn't go off, it just burns steadily.
I giggle a little crazily. "Look Elena!" I call to her childishly. "The water doesn't put it out, it's so pretty." I giggle, watching the fire burn under the rolling waves.
"Neruda, do something." Selena says desperately, she even remembered his name.
"I can't." They move closer to me. "The water is supposed to be able to put it out, what you're seeing right there is not supposed to happen unless she's a Hellhound." He mumbles in confusion.
I look up to see guilt, play across Cyril's face but I don't think much of it.
"So my hands are never going to stop burning?" I ask a little hesitantly, raising my hands out of the water.
"No, calm down." He says gently, no doubt to the panicked expression on my face. "You made the fire September, you can put it out."
"That's the problem." I shake my head, still sitting on the sand and in water. "I don't believe I can make fire." I wave my still flaming hands. "Do you understand why I can't put it off now?" I ask quietly, wanting him to understand.
I don't think he does but he nods anyway. "What can we do to help you believe?" He asks patronizingly. "I mean, your hands are on fucking fire." I know he's just frustrated, thinking about why the water is not putting my hands out.
"Real helpful idiot." Selena glares at him and... Of course, she has forgotten his name again. "Cyril, unlock it." She directs her cold glare at our elder brother.
"I-I can't." He stutters, stumbling backwards.
"You can't or you won't." She rounds on him and I see Cyril looking really terrified for the first time.
"I'm sorry, unlock what?" Neruda blinks.
"Stay out of this Monté." Selena lashes at him, not even sparing him a glance. To Cyril she grabs his shirt. "It'll always end up like this if you don't unlock it." She continues cryptically, shaking him a bit.
He shrugs off and looks at his feet. "I can't do that Reina." He always called her by her middle Spanish name whenever he was worked up. "It'll only destroy everything."
"But I can unlock yours." He looks at her with glowing blue eyes.
She turned to look at him with wide eyes. "I lost mine too?"
