It was early morning. Although it was raining, it was significantly lighter than it was in the morning. The sky was dark due to the rain clouds that covered it. Lexine stood near the window of her bedroom, staring out of it.
She had not been able to sleep for most of the night and had woken up much earlier than she wanted to. Lightning flashed over the horizon, illuminating the dark sky a bright white light for a few seconds. Lexine stared, unfazed, at the bright light even though it seemed to burn her eyes.
Just then, a figure that lay in her bed stirred, causing Lexine's attention to drift back to the room. Quira poked her head from beneath the covers. 'Lexine?' Quira spoke in her mind. 'What time is it? Why are you awake this early?'
Lexine smiled at Quira. "If you're still sleepy, you can just go back to sleep, I don't mind."
Quira shook her head as she sat up. 'I can't go back to sleep. Since it is raining, I am more invigorated than usual.'
