Adley fell to her knees next to her sister, placing her hand on her forehead. Aurinda's face was pale, and her dark lips had become chapped.
Cardial and Sevin stood at the opening of the cave. Sevin had drawn his sword and it was gripped tightly in his hand.
Lexine ran a hand through her hair. "Are you sure this is not part of the test?"
"It can't be. The other houses had not passed through the gate before it closed. Why would it shut before they pass through." Adley murmured under her breath as she rummaged through the bag that was strapped onto her bag. "Not forgetting that fire that fell onto us." She pulled out a long stick, pushed Aurinda's jaw down and shoved it into her mouth.
