Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Normal School Day?

Throwing his sheet off in a panic, holding his pounding heart that might jump out of his chest at any moment. Nadia looked up seeing Luke had just woken up seeing that Luke's face wore a scared expression. Nadia wonders if he had a similar nightmare since they saw the same man yesterday, he wouldn't blame Luke for looking like he was about to piss his pants yesterday. Turning his head, his eyes catch a glimpse of his clock next to his bed.

"Shit! We overslept! Luke, hurry up! If we're late again we'll for sure get detention this time!" yelled Nadia.

Once they gathered their stuff, the boys sprinted out the dormitory, not caring who or what was in their way. In the distance, the two friends heard the school bell telling them that class has officially started. Without stopping, the two friends slammed the entrance door open, quickly stopping at the lockers, and started to run down the halls and stairs to class. Until they finally arrived at their classroom door, stopping to catch their breath they had lost.

"Okay now that we're finally here, let's try sneaking inside, maybe they won't notice us," said Luke in a quiet tone with empty breaths.

"You idiot, you think that would work?" replied Nadia in the same tone.

"I mean it's worth a try, isn't it?" said Luke.

Luke quietly opened the classroom door hoping to go unnoticed by their teacher. Too bad for them, but their teacher was already waiting for their late arrival. Luke and Nadia awkwardly smiled at their teacher pretending they had not just arrived late to class. The two friends didn't stop walking until they reached their desks. Where a nice yellow note with the word detention written on it was waiting for them. Both Nadia and Luke smacking their heads against their desk in defeat. Bettina and Oliver patted Nadia and Luke on their back letting them know it was a good attempt. While the class was in session, Nadia tried whispering to Luke but of course, he couldn't hear a thing. Luke pulls his phone out of his pocket and points towards it, signaling him to text him. Nadia pulls his phone out to start texting the group chat so they had an idea of what he was trying to say.

"Yo guys, do you guys remember the creepy masked man we saw yesterday? I don't know about you guys but I had a creepy dream about him," texted Nadia.

"Wait seriously?! Is it weird that I had a creepy dream about him too?" texted Luke.

"I see, Oliver and I weren't the only one who dreamt about him then," texted Bettina

The group continued to text about their weird dream containing the strange masked man, well until they got interrupted.

"Mr. Mckay, mind showing me your phone?" said the teacher.

The startled Nadia looks up to see his teacher standing right next to him. He hands his phone over to the teacher in defeat, when the teacher looks at the phone they could see who else appeared on the screen.

"Mr. Cortez! Mr Zhang! and Mrs. Katō! you can also hand your phones over to me," said their teacher.

They held their phone out ready waiting for their teacher to take their phone. The teacher grabs their phone, walking over to their desk, opening a drawer to lock their phones away.

"I hope you four all like detention," announced the teacher.

The four kids either, try to hide from the student stares, or just hit their heads on their desk in embarrassment.

The day went on as they went from one class to another hoping the day would end quickly so they could get detention over and done with. The school day was finally over, the only thing left was their detention. Nadia and Luke enter the class where detention was being held, they saw Bettina and Oliver sitting in far spots away from each other. Bettina sat in the front looking out a window, while Oliver sat in the middle left corner of the class.

"You aren't allowed to talk to each other so pick a spot away from the other students. Also, you are not allowed to do the following such as eating, getting up, leaving, or even work on homework. Do you understand that boys?" explained the teacher.

"Yes Ma'am, " said Nadia and Luke with a groan.

Not even a few minutes in and the kids are already bored to tears. Luke is staring the clock down watching every minute go by while Oliver is messing with a pencil he found in his pocket. Bettina is slowly falling asleep from the lack of entertainment. As Nadia is starting to lose himself in his thoughts about the masked man in his dream, then he suddenly remembers two specific words the man used. "Kratos Oblation" Nadia's train of thought broken when a loud explosion could be heard in the distance in the school.

"What the fuck was that? Did anyone else hear that?" said Bettina breaking the silence.

"The sound, it sounded like it came from the direction the gym was located," said Oliver.

"Should we go check it out? I mean it's better than staying here," said Nadia heading towards the door.

"Not so fast Mr. Mckay, I'm the adult here so I'll go check it out what that explosion was about. You kids stay put here, I'll lock the door just in case something serious happens," the teacher said blocking the door to prevent Nadia from leaving. The teacher grabs the key to lock the door from the other side of the classroom door. The friends watched as the teacher speed-walked towards the gym leaving the friends with curiosity.

"Maybe it's a terrorist attack, what do you guys think?" asked Luke.

"Luke, do you really think terrorists would aim for schools?" replied Oliver.

"Wouldn't terrorists just attack just anyone or anything they see?" said Luke.

Suddenly the lights in the classrooms were cut off, pausing their conversations at the sudden event. In the midst of their silents they heard something coming from the floor below them.

"Who are you?! Wait! What are you doing!? Please! No! Stay away! Leave me alone! Help m-" was the last time they heard, before silence took over.

The kids quietly stood still, afraid to make a sound, looking at each other for answers to what happened to the voice. Quietly they took a set to calm their nerves, not knowing what's to come if whatever was out there came to their door. Slowly Nadia started to hear the words "Kratos Oblation" once again, repeating in a non stop rhythm.

"Why won't this stupid creepy voice get out of my head" cries Luke in a whiny voice.

Nadia eyes widen and quickly turns to Luke with a terrified look.

"Luke…Y-you can.. h-hear him too?" Nadia asked with a shaky voice.

"At this point... I'm sure we can all hear it" said Bettina nervously.

They froze when they realized the voice was no longer in their heads but echoing from outside their classroom. The room temperature started to quickly drop as the voice echo started to get closer.

"Why is it suddenly so cold, it's like a freezer in here!" whispered Luke.

The sun has completely gone down, leaving the moon as their only source of light left. The shadow around the room started to slowly grow as the moon started to lit more light. Nadia and Bettina aren't ones who get scared easily but for the first time in forever they were reminded how fear felt. Sitting there, motionless, hoping the voice would pass them so they wouldn't have to face what's out there. Luke and Oliver started to become more terrified seeing that Nadia and Bettina stood there motionless. They would always rely on fearless duo but for the first time they might not be able too. The voice has finally reached the classroom door, holding their breaths hoping the voice would continue down the hall. As the voice was arriving by the classroom door, it suddenly stopped, only the feeling of suspense was left in the air. The four friends jumped when sudden taps could be heard coming from the small window on the door.

"Let's get out of here man… I say we climb out the window to avoid whatever's out there.." whispered Oliver.

"Are you crazy?! We are literally on the third story!" whispered Luke.

"Well, would you rather wait for Mr. Creepy over there?" whispered Oliver.

"Okay fine.. but I'm not going first," whispered Luke.

Oliver started to slowly walk towards the window, showing Luke that he'll go first. Unlocking the classroom window, Oliver slid the window open and looked down. Steadying himself on the window collecting his courage to step on the ledge to his right. Once Oliver lowered himself, Luke nervously followed right after Oliver, taking his sweet time to lower himself. Bettina watched the two boys go down to the secure ground before she could climb out the window next. Oliver and Luke reach the ground they both watched as Bettina started to make her way into the window. Before Bettina was even halfway out the window, the classroom door crashed to the floor with a loud bang. Without hesitation Bettina lowered herself quickly onto the ledge knowing Nadia had to get down before the masked man spotted him. Nadia quickly places his hands on the window lowering himself trying not to lose balance, while the masked man starts to pace towards him. Right when Nadia was about to let go of the window, his wrists were suddenly grabbed by the masked man. Nadia's eyes widened as he saw the masked man start to pull him back into the classroom. Before Bettina lowered herself to the next ledge, her attention was shifted towards a squirming Nadia who was trying to escape the man's grip. Bettina pulled herself back onto the ledge and tightly grabbed around Nadia's ankles pulling him towards her. Soon, Bettina and the man started having a tug of war match, using Nadia's body as the rope. A battle between a scary man and stubborn girl who weren't willing to just give up this game of tug of war over Nadia life.

"Bettina! Wait! If you pull on him too hard, you and Nadia might fal-" before Luke could even finish his sentence.

With one final effort Bettina managed to loosen Nadia from the man's iron grip. As a result of that effort, Nadia and Bettina came crashing down the three story building. Thankfully Luke happened to be standing there breaking both of their fall.

"Fuck!" groaned Nadia slowly lifting himself off Bettina and Luke.

"You know Luke, you make a pretty good crash mat," Bettina said laughing while getting off Luke.

"What the heck Bettina, that hurt, you could've killed me you know!" whined Luke pushing himself off the floor.

"Oh yeah! Well at least you weren't being used as a human tug a war rope by two people who surprisingly have really strong grips! Then happen to fall off a three story building!" yelled Nadia.

"Maybe if you got out the window faster it wouldn't have happened, so be grateful that I was even there to help you out!" said Bettina.

The three kept arguing, forgetting the fact that they could have been kidnapped a few seconds ago. Along with the fact they might not be out of whatever situation they are in.

"All of you need to shut up! We got bigger things at hand right now! The masked man is still out there so let's get the heck out of here!" yelled Oliver.

"He's right, we better get the hell out of here if we don't plan on going on a date with that creep." said Bettina.

"What about the explosions? Don't you guys want to find out what happened? We should go and check if there are any survivors." said Nadia.

"I have a better idea, why don't we call the police and let them take care of it? I don't know about you guys but I really don't want to go near that thing again!" said Luke.

"Even if we did do that our phones are still in the classroom with the masked man. Besides if we did wait for the police to arrive it might be too late for the survivors." said Nadia.

"Okay fine you win, if we're going to do this let's hurry while that thing is still in the school building." replied Luke in defeat.

Without wasting anymore time they rushed towards the school's gym, they haven't run into anyone due to school being out and only a few kids would stay behind for club reasons. When they started to reach the gym's location, they were shocked to see a giant hole on the side of the building.

"What the hell happened?!" said Nadia.

"I don't know but we better hurry!" replied Bettina.

They started to pick up the pace even faster, hoping whoever was in the gym would be okay. When they finally arrived, they looked through the hole only to see bodies lying motionless on the cold gym floor. Scattered throughout the gym were bodies crushed by debris, thrown by the explosions, or had deep slash marks on their body.

"Take a look at the mark on their body, I don't think some explosion or normal human could do this," said Oliver examining the strange deep cuts.

They keep walking within the gym, checking to see if anyone is still alive. They decided to head towards the hallway to search the bathroom and locker rooms to see if anyone took cover there. Luke grabbed the gym door handle opening it for the three, following right behind them. Oliver tried the light switches in the hall and the cold light would only flicker, but it was enough to light the dark hallway.

"Stop...did you guys hear that?" said Nadia motioning them to stop.

The three froze in place, silence filled the room but the extra pair of feet that stopped didn't go unnoticed.

"I think it came from the bathrooms," Oliver said pointing towards the direction of the bathrooms.

Nadia started tiptoeing down the hallway until he got the bathroom door and started to open the door, the other three stood in the same spot waiting for Nadia to say it was safe to continue.

"I think the coast is cle-" as Nadia was turning to wave his friends over, a flying object hit him on the side of the face.

"What the fuck...a shoe?" Nadia said rubbing the side of his face glaring at the shoe.

Before he could look where the shoe came from, charging footsteps heading straight for him. A shadowy figure emerged from the dark bathroom tackling Nadia onto the floor, hitting him while yelling random nonsense. Nadia was ready to fight whoever just hit him with a fucking shoe, but before he could throw a punch his friends broke them apart.

With its eyes closed, the figure yelled, "DIE!! You ugly bastard!!" while throwing random punches that are now hitting the air.

"I don't think you want to draw any attention so do us a favor and shut up."

Bettina said, pressing her hand against his mouth.

"What the hell! And who is that guy!?" questioned Nadia, pointing at the random person.

"Would you keep it down and to answer your question it seems to be one of the survivors," Bettina noticed the person has finally calmed down. "Are you ready to cooperate now?"

The figure lifted his hands in surrender and nodded his head. Bettina slowly started to lift her hand off and let him go.

"Yeah, sorry about that my guy, I thought you might be what caused the explosion, I couldn't help but panic," he said nervously scratching the back of his neck.

"If you don't mind me asking what your name is, you sound familiar so..." questioned Bettina.

After he slowly regained his composure, "Oh um, my name is Felix."

"Oh, I remember you now, you're the guy we saved yesterday and now we're probably about to do it again," snapping her fingers in remembrance.

Before they could continue talking, the dark whisper could be heard once again heading their direction and bringing fear into the air.

"What the heck is that sound," Felix asked nervously.

"It's the masked man, we should get the heck out of here, " said Oliver.

"The only way out is through the front doors which is where that creepy voice is coming from, our best bet is to hide in the bathroom until it walks by," Felix said pointing towards the bathroom.

Nodding in agreement they rushed into the bathroom entering a stall locking their doors. Nadia sat on the toilet, along with placing his feet a top to hide his feet. He could feel his anxiety growing at the same rate the distant whispers came closer and closer down the hallway. Praying and hoping that he won't hear the bathroom door open, that the masked man would walk past them. The whispers grew much louder than before, indicating that it wasn't far from the bathroom entrance. The whisper suddenly stopped once it reached near the bathroom leaving silence to take over, a few minutes went by creating tension in the air.

"Did he leave? No..It can't be, he didn't even continue down the hall," Nadia thought to himself.

Nadia sat there debating whether he should leave the stall and check outside the bathroom door to see if the coast is clear. He laid his head back against the wall staring at the ceiling, not knowing what to do. He closed his eyes, deciding to wait a while longer, but before he got a chance to relax, the whispers started again. His eyes snap open only for his eyes to meet a silhouette body on the ceiling. Nadia screamed as the silhouette dropped down on him only for darkness to take over.
