Chapter 3 - Chapter Three

Meara followed Commander Grey into the conference room.

"Could you explain to me why Dr Suil seems to think we're an item?! And seriously what was with you stroking and kissing me?!" Meara shuddered at the thought. She slammed her hand down on the table. "According to the Dr Suil we've been at it -" Meara stopped mid-sentence. What the fuck was that! She lifted her left hand closer to her face to examine it. A simple silver band with a small diamond sitting centre stage on her ring finger.

"What are you talking you about, Callie? We've been engaged for weeks. You need to go back down to sickbay." Grey said. He couldn't understand why she was saying this. Callie was everything to him. She was acting so strange. He put it down to the concussion. But if that was the case, she's now had memory loss and needed to be checked out. Now.

Meara's astonished face stared at him gobsmacked. Since when had they been engaged! She didn't understand what the hell was going on. Behind her she could feel that somewhere was there, and Grey's tense face told her who. She turned around.

"Would you mind explaining to me why you are now four hours late for duty, Lieutenant Meara?!" Captain Ramirez's cold eyes were set on her with hatred. He was an old-fashioned bastard who believed that women's place was at home looking after kids. Meara was his only female officer. Most women applied for transfers to other postings within a month of being on the USS. Caldera. But Meara was vermin he simply could not rid himself of.

As soon as Meara realised who was behind her, her heart sank. Ramirez got at her at every opportunity he was given. It meant she had to be better than everyone else and then some. She hated the old fool. Grey gently pushed to her to one side and cleared his throat.

"I'm sorry Captain, Meara was trapped inside the turbolift early this morning. She had to be taken to sickbay because of a serious concussion. Dr Suil must have thought she was fine, but clearly there's something still wrong with her. I'll take her back to sickbay now." Meara opened her mouth in objection but decided to keep quiet when Grey gave her a look. If Ramirez took disciplinary action she was never gonna get a decent posting again. Grey wrapped his arm around her and led her towards the door.

"Let me get one thing straight Lieutenant Meara." The pair stopped in their tracks. "It's only gonna take one more incident, however puerile it may be, I will have you kicked out of the Federation to the point where you will never get another job that's anything more than a pathetic diner waitress. Do I make myself clear?"

Meara turned around.

"Is that a threat, Captain Ramirez? Because if so, I'd like that in writing please." Meara turned back and walked out, shrugging off Commander Grey whilst she was at it.
