Ashley's POV
Sweat trickled down my body as I waited in terror for the worst to happen.
Nothing.
Whimpering,I faced up. I didn't see the disfigured face, the black eyes and I couldn't perceive the smell of blood and death anymore,my room seemed perfectly normal.
Tory sobs filled the room with Summer shivering at a corner while Noel lay flat on her back, her eyes wide open in shock. I stood on unsteady legs and using the wall as an aid, traced the light switch and I turned it on.
Summer and Tory jerked up and rushed to Noel's sides, nobody said a fucking word. "We have to take her home." Summer said after a while and they both struggled to get her up.
"You can stay, for the night,it's late." I rushed the words and when they both turned in my direction,I felt a bit stupid for the suggestion. Summer managed a smile and shook her head.
With their hands around her neck and their waist aiding her movement, they made way for the door. I attempted to follow them but Tory's gaze stopped me,"Ashley please, goodnight okay?"
I watched them leave my room and my head went through a series of thoughts,I wouldn't lose my friends because of a one night mistake right?,I wasn't even to be blamed for any of it. Not fully convinced especially at the memory of their strange gazes on me,I rushed after them.
Just as I got to the living room, two male faces fell on me. Asher and the other guy from yesterday, the blonde guy with brown eyes. I shook my head and ignored any tingling sensation I felt under his heated gaze.
"Did you chase your friends?" Asher asked, not with humour or mischief. I bit my lips thinking of the right words,"Did you hear anything?" I managed to ask praying that they didn't and when I saw how relaxed they were,I knew they didn't.
"So I was right all along, something happened in there,I always knew you couldn't handle friends." The annoying grin was back. This wasn't the time for any childish exchange,at all.
I ignored him and the other guy's gaze and rushed to the front door. "I was right all along." He said again and I gritted my teeth,"She gets friends and then she chases them away."
Asher had a problem with reading moods and whether he did or didn't,I was filled with rage and I turned to face him. "Shut the fuck up." I spat at him. His smirk widened and so did my rage.
"I'm so scared of little Ashley!" He said with a girl's voice wiggling his hands upward. The other guy watched us with a straight expression.
"Asher-"
"Ashes." I walked up to him as he laughed and pushed him as roughly as I could that he stumbled backwards. For a while I watched my hands,I hadn't used so much force.
He groaned and got up. "What the hell is your problem?" He asked and he climbed up. A feeling of guilt washed over me but then I had a justified reason for being angry.
"Are you okay?" The other guy asked as he stood in front of me. I was confused, angry and scared. His voice had an effect on me and I fell into his arms sobbing.
"Oh no no no,it's okay. I don't know what happened in there but it's okay." He soothed me. I calmed down but not without wondering how in the world they didn't hear a single scream.
*~*~*~*
That night was one of the worst I ever had. I had been so afraid to sleep in my room that I slept in the living room,on the couch, but it didn't guarantee a nightmare-free night.
I kept seeing her, kept perceiving the foul stink of death. It terrified me to realize that the legend was real but why didn't she kill us all?
The legend was fucking real and we had just brought it all up. Maybe this was a one night thing, maybe she wouldn't come again and we'll live our normal teenage lives,or maybe this was the genesis of our problems.
Maybe.
Just that word held a lot of uncertainty.
Mum didn't seem pissed off at the fact that I slept on the couch. I made up a silly story and luckily, she bought it.
She drove I and Asher to school the next day and through out the drive,he wouldn't look at me. Mum seemed far from surprised,I knew she enjoyed the peace and quiet.
She dropped us and before I had a chance of talking to him,he vanished,I could do that later. My friends were all in my mind now. As I walked down the hallway,a feeling of nervousness washed over me.
Everything that happened last night was not my doing but still,in a little weird way,I felt I had to apologise.
I collided with a body disrupting my thoughts. Great, day two of school and I've bumped into two souls. Three girls stood in front of me and I quickly recognized them, the queen bee and her minions.
The queen bee, Victoria stared at me,a blank stare. I thought that was supposed to be a glare considering the liquid dripping down her body to the floor, the other two girls at her sides shot lazers at me with their eyes.
I stood waiting for what would come next when her eyes roamed around her soaked dress.
"Watch where you're going next time." She said and one second later, they were gone waking in synch. I watched their retreating figures, what just happened?
I shrugged and walked up to my locker. I sighted Summer and Noel by my locker laughing and talking. Summer sighted me first and squealed as I approached.
"Hey girl." Noel said and smiled while filing her nails. I paused before waving. I didn't know what I had expected from them but I didn't expect this at all.
Summer was dressed so fancy and Noel looked as if she just came out of a beauty shop and then me,I could still see bags under my eyes from lack of sleep even after I applied makeup.
"Hey." I smiled and opened my locker. "What's up girl?,you seem like you didn't get enough sleep." Noel said. I stared at them,it was an opportunity to talk about all that had happened.
I didn't want to bring it up,well I didn't want to be the one to bring it up but right now?,I had to.
"You know, yesterday's stuff." I whispered. They stared at me, clueless. "What stuff?,and why are you whispering?" Summer asked. I stared at her,was she joking or attempting to joke?
"You know, the bloody Mary stuff we tried out for fun,the moment it actually happened, the girl in the mirror,the..." My voice trailed off by itself when I saw the confused stare they were both giving me.
"That movie got in your head so deep." Noel chuckled.
Huh?
"We tried it out, remember?, We used a mirror and lit a candle and hell!,we saw her. She spared us and you all left my house." They looked at me with concern and I stared in shock.
They couldn't have forgotten, how long had it been?
"We left because Tory wasn't so strong, remember?" Noel asked staring at me in concern. "The movie got in your head so bad, damn!,did you even sleep?" Summer asked.
I stared,my lips slightly forming an O. Summer's boyfriend, Derek stopped by and when he and Summer began to get all lovey dovey,we stopped talking about it and I turned back to my locker.
I had watched few horror movies where a group of people would either summon or provoke a supernatural force and then they would all die, painful agonizing deaths, one by one.
Our's was different. How about choosing between getting killed by a supernatural force or being the only one out of your friends to remember a demonic game that you played and what happened afterwards?
Was this another way of getting us all killed?
I glanced at them again,Derek's hands were wrapped around Summer's waist while the three of them laughed without a single care at something he said.
I turned back to my locker, they couldn't remember a thing.
Where the hell was Tory?
