Nova stared that the window, watching the two raindrops race each other. Thunder would hit every once in a while, a bright flash enter in the dimly lit room. She eventually yawned and plopped down her bed, bored and deep thinking about the past few days. It's been at least 3 days since she parted from the chemistry lab, not really sure since she didn't bother to keep check of the days as they passed by.
The first thought that popped up was to get out of the house, but she doubted her father would allow her to do so. After all, the news that it wasn't safe to roam town anymore has been all over the media.
She ignored her hesitation as she walked towards her closet. Pulling out a nice outfit that will surely keep her warm from the weather outside, the image of Ms. Baldwin and crossed her mind for unknown reason.
She shook it off as she changed from her pajamas and picked up a small bag where she could carry her belongings in. Taking one last look on the mirror, her hands gripped the clear quartz necklace her mother gave her years ago, Before she left. She thought if her mother would let go out at times like this. Would she be disappointed? Mad? Proud to have a rebellious outgoing daughter just like her?
She'd never now, and she won't bother herself to know now.
Slowly sneaking out of her room, she eyed the hall before tiptoeing her way to the elevator. She was about to press the button, but someone had caught her.
"Sweetheart? Where are you off to?"
She stiffly turned around, a tight smile open her face as she stared at her father with wide eyes.
"You do know that you can't go outside, right?" He reminded her, causing Nova to nod quickly.
"Yeah yeah, I know! It's just the fact that I haven't taken a picture for my social media in a while and you know how I like to keep a certain image, so I wanted to take it down in the game room."
He narrowed his eyes as her before lazily nodding and rubbing his eyes. "Okay darling. Try not to stay up too late."
Her expression softened when she realized how tired her father looked.
"good night, dad."
"good night," he yawned in response, his slippers hearable as he walked to his room.
A sting of guilt stung her while she watched him walk away. The image of worry on his face when he finds out she's no longer at home swimming in her imagination.
"It's just a night drive," she whispered to herself as she pressed the button.
When Nova reached her beloved car, she wasted no time to hop in and bring it back to life. The garage door opened to the remote signal she held.
The radio played music way back from the 20s, the jazzy beat making Nova subconsciously drum her fingers against the wheel.
The night drive was enough to calm her down, but not that much. The empty streets made her feel like she was trespassing. It didn't last long more than 20 minutes, Nova quickly changing directions back her home.
When she reached, she noticed guards around the estate. They weren't there when she first left, why appear now?
She huffed, knowing that the guards will most likely tattletale on her. Finally, she decided to park close to the private garden since she knew a secret passageway she used to use when she was a child.
While Nova closed the engine of her car, she frowned at the window, rain pouring down harder than the first time as the glass fogged up a bit. She turned to search for the umbrella she kept underneath the backseat of her car incase it starts to rain out of the blue. When she got a hold of it, she pulled it out with a smile on her face.
The young girl prepared herself to walk out of her car, the umbrella in her hold like a sword ready to be stained with blood. A light chuckled escaped her lips, the fact that she loved to get lost in fairytales where girls like her run into battle with vows of protecting their kingdom made her smile.
Nova successfully stood out without getting soaked, her handbag pressed against her chest to make sure it was also hidden under the umbrella.
As she walked towards her house, she paused midway. Something inside of her screamed at her to run. It felt like someone or something was following her. Suddenly, a kick from her gut feeling had hit, forcing her to turn.
She was right, something was following her. It lunged at her, giving her no time to see who she was against. It held her arms, it's long nails piercing her skin. Nova gave a painful yelp as she pushed harshly against the purple creature's chest, trying to stay away from its snarling teeth. She pushed harder, the force causing her to fall on the rough wet ground.
It's tail carved the side of her stomach, a painful scream echoing from her throat. She managed to throw her bag at it, her keychain on the side grazing it a bit. This gave her the change to pull herself to the car where the umbrella was thrown.
"Come on, come on!" she gritted, her hands working hard to pull her body weight. When she grabbed the umbrella, she leaned against the car, eyes wide when the creature threatened to harm her once more.
And it did. It's claws reached out to her in a predatory behavior, mouth wide open to swallow her whole. Nova quickly closed her umbrella and pushed it against it's torso. Her weapon went right through the creature as it slipped closer down to Nova.
It's dead body was an inch away from touching Nova, who stared at it with wide eyes.
The creature started to shake, forcing a whimper from Nova as it did. From it's solid form, it started to melt into goo. Nova followed it with her eyes, watching how it went down the drain along with the rain.
"What the hell are you?" She whispered.
her breathing was unsteady as the storm startled her. Nova looked down at her ripped side, the rain washing the blood way. She had to get up and get herself fixed. Grabbing her bag and using the car to help her stand, Nova limped towards the garden fence. Going towards a certain bush, she pushed it by, finding the hole on the fence. She crawled through it, wincing and hissing every time she felt a jolt of pain come from her side.
The back door was guarded by two guards she noticed before. She knew one of them could easily be bribed to keep their mouth shut. Just for the right price.
when Nova came into their view, one of them rushed to help her stand.
"Ms. Adams. What happened?"
she didn't reply, knowing that her story would sound ridiculous. Instead she leaned on to the guard, her eyes threatening to close.
"Nick, prepare the car, we'll reach the hospital faster that way. Make sure that others know there's someone is trying to hurt the family. Get back up," the one holding her ordered.
"no," she whispered, trying to muster the words. "My dad should not know."
"you're in safe hands, Ms. Adams. We'll get you well in no time."
she wanted to protest again, but she slumped into his hold instead. She hated how she couldn't prevent the upcoming commotion.
