As Modoru headed back to Nokosu's apartment, he could not think of anything else but two things. Where were Nokosu and Agatha going to run too? And would he accompany them or go home? As he racked his brain on an answer to both of them, he knocked on the apartment door.
"Who is it?" Nokosu said.
"It's me," Modoru said. As Nokosu let him in, he realized Modoru didn't have the Xenophite with him.
"Shit…. What happened," Nokosu said as Agatha walked up beside Nokosu.
"Well, I tried to salvage what we had. But Meishu was misguided. He thought we were from Rukaku Labs and were using the Xenophite as one of Shibuya's competitors. So, he destroyed it with our lab's corrosive acid. I couldn't reach it in time because there were too many trained guns on me," Modoru lamented. "I took out the guards because if I had left then and there, we would've all gotten caught."
"How did you knock out the guards?" Agatha asked. Modoru pointed to his goggles.
"I took out the lights. And this guy right here grants night vision. You can imagine the rest." Modoru said.
"Nice!" Nokosu said with a smile. However, it quickly disappeared knowing what might happen next. Nokosu walked away and then retrieved the prepared prototype C.S device. "Well…I guess it's the end of the road now, isn't it?" Modoru looked at him, then to the device and frowned.
"It doesn't have to be now...I should get you two to safe place before the cops show up," Modoru said who was trying to delay the inevitable.
"This is our best lull in circumstances Modoru, right while the guards are knocked out. If you don't leave now, we might never get a chance again as both the cops and Shibuya will be on us," Nokosu said.
"Tell me you're going to be safe. Tell me where you're going," Modoru said.
"I'll have myself and Agatha go to Valkyrie City in the south – where my contact is. That should be far enough away from Diviner's City." Nokosu said.
"And traverse the wastelands alone? Without an aircraft?" Modoru asked bewildered.
"Hey there is no reason you have to take your C.S device with you. If you leave it here, I can train Agatha how to use it. Nothing is going to catch us in the wastelands with us being able to teleport…. we just need to be careful."
"Modoru, it's for the best," Agatha said as she put an hand on his shoulder.
"It really is bro, come on, let me power up this thing before anything else happens." Nokosu said. Nokosu walked to their living room and turned on the prototype C.S device. As he put his arm inside the device, electrical currents were sent into his arm and the device powered up. A transparent type of purple glue formed in front of them, shaping itself into an oval. "This is a one-way portal created through me, I call it the Cascading stream also; because of the visible stream of Xenophite that cascades through the portal.
"It's beautiful," both Modoru and Agatha said.
"Bro…I'm gunna miss you." Modoru said as he turned to Nokosu.
"Don't worry, I'll still be around 50 years in the future. Come find me in Valkyrie City and we can catch up. Look for a person named Kalisto. It's only goodbye for now…" Nokosu said with glassy eyes. Modoru, careful as too not interrupt the connection between Nokosu and the prototype C.S device, quickly hugged him.
"Take care of yourself Modoru," Agatha said not wanting to interrupt the two friend's exchange.
"You take care too Agatha," Modoru said as he turned himself to the portal now. Taking off his C.S device he now gave it to Agatha. "Ok here goes." Looking back before heading into the portal he said "Your right, its only goodbye for now…...see you in 50 years Nokosu." With that Modoru disappeared into the portal and Nokosu shut down the device.
