Chapter 109 - Chapter 96: The Battle Ensues

Dondre's POV

Once we were all suited up and out at the shore, I figured it'd be better to let the other two go on ahead and leave me here; that way we'd be able to cover both the prison itself and the shore, giving us two lines of defense. Not like anything could get past me anyways.

Time to make up for all the time I lost during the past month. I'm guessing some of them are starting to grow weary of me, so I gotta remind them of my place on the team.

After they left me hanging there waiting for ages, finally the action started.

A hurricane formed around a nearby building, destroying the others around it.

"Well well well." I said, "I know exactly who that is."

Next a shroud of thick purple gas aroused the area, not only making it hard to see but decreasing the area of where I could move.

"Well, if it isn't the hottest sisters around." I greeted as they walked out of the smoke

"Oh look sis it's that weirdo again." Twister pointed out

"Well no need to be so harsh." I blushed

"Ugh, get a life." Toxica scoffed, snapping her fingers

On cue, more villains exited the gas, featuring the likes of the Infernomancer, Music Meister, Spectre and some mafia dude.

-"That's him!"-, Taylor shouted over comms, -"That's Midas!"-

"This is your bad guy?" I questioned, scanning the guy from top to bottom, "He looks like he belongs in the Italian Mafia, not some rag tag prison break."

-"Don't underestimate him, I'm coming there now; if anyone should face him it should be me, I can't watch you guys get hurt because of him."-

-"Donte and Shante,"-, Cas came in, "-the two of you make your way to the shore as well and help out the others."-

"No need." I stopped her, "I can hold em off myself."

In nearly an instant the backup speedster was here, now bringing the odds to 2 vs 6. Not exactly favorable, but definitely better than a 1v6.

"Midas!" Taylor shouted, "Where's the Piper?"

"You again." He acknowledged, "I can't believe you actually followed me all this way from Portland."

"You know her boss?" Spectre questioned him

"Just a little nuisance that follows me around, she won't be hard to take care of."

"And the other speedsters I was telling your about are already here. Someone must've snitched."

"I want em all out of here in 5 minutes. Ya got that?"

"Yes master."

Spectre then pointed his staff towards us and issued orders to the others.

"Inferno, Maestro, handle them. Toxica and Twister, continue as planned."

"You got it boss." Twister affirmed, creating a tame tornado to transport the two of them

"Well master?" Spectre questioned, "Shall we proceed with the plans?"

"Let's go." He confirmed

Spectre raised his scepter in the air and engulfed them in his mist.

"Oh no you don't." I said

"I'm not letting you get away from me again!" Taylor screamed

The two of us ran off, Taylor bulleting for Midas and me chasing after the sisters.

"Fermata!" Music Meister shouted, causing the two of us to stop dead in our tracks, "Not so fast. The party's just begun!"

Spectre's mist then fully covered the two of them, teleporting them away.

"Damnit." I gritted my teeth, struggling to move my body, "Not this again."

"Why can't I move!" Taylor panicked

"It's his word manipulation. Anything he says causes whatever he commands to act accordingly, but for whatever reason he only speaks in musical terms."

-"Donte, Shante, Toxica and Twister are coming your way."- warned Cas, -"Be on your guards."-

Well this is just great. Of all the people it had to be this guy again. The last time we only beat him because Kyle was immune to his commands.

"This is just sad." Said the Infernomancer, "Here I was hoping I could have a rematch with my old friend Velocity. Oh well, I guess you'll do."

Stepping forward, he sparked fires in his palms then shot them towards us.

"Savina Habanero!" He shouted

Suddenly our bodies literally lit on fire, forcing screams from our very souls.

"DAMNIT!" I exclaimed, paralyzed and being sentenced to torture.

I never signed up for this shit.

Donte's POV

Well while everyone was busy at the pier, Shante and I were left to guard the prison. Though there was something we hadn't realized; once you reach on the island of the prison, you're within range of the Anti-X-Genist radiowaves. Shante and I were already stranded on the island from the moment we got there, causing us to be completely useless.

She'd warned us when Toxica and Twister were coming, but we definitely weren't ready for all this chaos.

The two of them came over here by riding a freaking tornado!

Once we'd finally told Cassandra about our problem, she had no idea what to do; the only ones of us here immune to the radiowaves are Romaine, Melany and Taylor. Taylor was already trapped with Inferno and Music Meister on the shore, and Romaine was already sent to help them, and I don't know why they couldn't send Melany, but we were completely on our own for this one.

Romaine's POV

Once deployed by Cas to serve as back up to those on the shore, I enhanced my body by 100 Fold and ran as fast as I could.

Dondre and Taylor were visibly paralyzed, and not just that but burning alive too.

I sprinted over to them, catching the villains off-guard and throwing the two charred speedsters into shallow water.

"Well well." said Inferno, "Yet another hero's come to play. But still no sign of Velocity. How disappointing."

"You've got the person you're looking for right here." I stated, adjusting my stance

"Is that so? Well you're going to have to prove that claim!"

Inferno hurled fireballs in my direction, to which I reacted by triggering the Apple's Eye and moving out of their projectile path.

"There's no way to escape capsaicin." He said, "Maestro."

"Fermata!" Music Meister commanded

I then felt an overwhelming force of gravity keeping me stagnant in the spot that I was.

"So this is Word Manipulation." I commented, struggling to even breathe

"Now to show you what happens when I infuse capsaicin in the air." said Inferno, "Savina Habanero!"

Just as the two before me, my body instantly lit on fire, engulfing itself in flames.

My screams of pain echoed across the pier, though were short lived.

"Is this supposed to hurt.." I forcefully chuckled, " I sustain...way more damage than this...using Augendae...and my body heat gets so high that it's hard to breathe...this is nothing."

Ignoring the pain I felt, I broke free of Music Meister's bind, returning to an upright stance.

"Impossible!" went Music Meister, "No one can break free of my powers!"

"Well not just any ordinary person." I muttered, slowly walking up to them, "But I inherited the will of Kyle; so as far as I'm concerned, I bend to the will of nobody."

Dashing forward at sonic speed, I delivered a single punch to his chest, likely shattering all his ribs.

Inferno's late reaction to my move caused him to turn to me a full second after I'd done so, clearly confused on how I was still standing.

"You see Inferno," I said to him, "I'm not the same as before. I have people counting on me right now."

Simply flicking my finger, the air pressure created by the force shot him backwards into an already destroyed building, knocking him out cold. I then used the Apple's Eye to ensure that they were both alive; thankfully, yes.

After that I retrieved the two speedsters from the water, since they didn't seem to plan on getting out.

"You guys plan on drowning or something?" I questioned

"Shut up." Dondre stung, "I'd like to see you get roasted alive then instantly recover."

"Oh quiet your wounds are only first degree." I rebutted, "At least you had a suit to protect you jackass. Imagine how Taylor must be feeling."

We both turned our attention to the barely conscious girl, staring at her singed hoodie.

"I mean at least her under shirt didn't get burned off." he jested

"That's not funny." I scolded, hitting him in the back of the head

-"Dondre, take Taylor back to the lab."- Cas instructed, -"Romaine, go help out the siblings on the island."-

"You got it Cas." I confirmed, putting Taylor in his arms

As he sped off, I approached the edges of the water and looked towards the prison.

"Never thought I'd ever be back here." I said to myself

Channeling the necessary power through my legs, I pushed myself off the ground hard enough to propel me all the way over to the island.

Cassandra's POV

Our defense is swiftly falling apart. At this point we're just going to be losing more people. Now that Taylor's out of the game we only have 5 to work with.

"Prince, suggestions." I requested, continuing to run through scenarios in my head

"Well they've played their cards now, so all we need to do is counter." he replied

Just then, the satellite's alert went off. Checking to see what it was, the stress that was already on me felt like it'd increased several times.

"It's Midas; and he's with Spectre." I announced, bringing up a video feed, "It looks like he's talking to another member of the League."

Now I've seen tall people, but this guy, he was a giant, and not to mention overly muscular.

"Alright. Enough of your games Prince, we need to send Melany." I told him

"There's no way she can go out there in this state love." he reasoned, "There could be dozens of casualties."

"Yeah and what do you think will happen if we don't send her out there?"

"Yeah Mr Genius." Melany agreed, "This is what you've been training me for. I got the suit on and everything. C'mon Prince, I can do it."

"Well fine." he hesitantly gave in, "but make sure you remember every bit of what I taught you. And don't lose focus for a single second, understood?"

"Mhm-" She excitedly agreed

Once she'd left, Dondre arrived with Taylor, who I immediately took to the medical room to examine and treat.

"I'm sorry..." she murmured

"There's nothing to be sorry about Taylor. There was nothing that could've been done in that situation."

"So everyone's just gonna ignore me?" idled Dondre, "Alright then."

"I just sent Melany to go intercept Midas, why don't you go help her Dondre."

"I don't know where you were at the time, but I just got burned alive. So I don't know how you expect me to go back out there so soon."

"Midas?" Taylor questioned, pulling on my arm to help her sit up, "I have to go after him."

"No you're not." I refused, gently laying her back down, "You suffered second degree burns, if you went back out there now you'd be a lot more susceptible to damage and might even permanently damage your skin."

"He's too dangerous to leave alone. I have to go after him Cas. He's the only reason I'm even here."

After short consideration, I concluded that it would slightly increase our chances of victory by sending her out there.

"Alright fine," I conceded, "but wait here."

Walking down to the next floor, I checked several times to ensure that I wasn't being followed. I then walked over to the entrance of my father's old inventory vault, and entered the keycode.

"I knew you'd be useful to keep around." I said to the suit I took off the hanger

When exiting the vault, I was sure to lock and conceal it.

"Here." I handed the suit over to Taylor, "It's a prototype suit I've been working on. But I messed up the dimensions during tailoring. It might be a bit tight but it should fit."

Slowly taking the suit, instead of putting it on at superspeed like everyone else here, she instead opted to go to a private room to do so. I guess I've seen them do it so many times that I've just started to expect it as the norm; I've ended up forgetting that I'm actually surrounded by a bunch of weirdos.

Once she ran back in the room, it was apparent that her lightning's hue matched the suit.

"Silver's a good color on you." Dondre complemented

"I agree." I affirmed

Though the suit was supposed to be gold, I'd stopped working on it before I was able to apply any color, so it got left in it's default color: grey.

"Time to go stop Midas." she stated before bolting off to the elevator

Now that she'd had a proper suit, the energy created by her body was now being conducted, leaving behind a much bolder and opaque trail than before.

Dondre and I merely watched as her silver lightning zipped right past us.
