Chapter 21 - Chapter 6.2

I got into a rhythm of hitting that was almost hypnotising. Everything else faded out, my entire mind was consumed by the echoing sounds that vibrated through the cave and the occasional quite pointless tug on the chains that caused the cuffs to tear at my wrists. The cave was timeless, but I know I'd been there a while, I'd worn down half of the right side of the rock holding in the chains, when the humans started acting strangely. I didn't notice at first, but the humans started shuffling towards the walls, breaking away from their little huddles. The human in my cage started making whimpering sounds, like they were in pain, but even then, it didn't move.

Suddenly, bright light is everywhere. Pain shoots through my unsuspecting retinas, and the rock slips from my hands, which shoot up to shield my face. There's movement, footsteps echo across the cavern; the human's recoil even further, forming a knot of limbs and bodies around the circumference of the cave. I can hear keys jingle and the door to the cage being opened, I turn into the sound "who are you?" I squint against the bright light, but my visions blurred. The figure marches in and lifts a metal rod to my stomach. It shocks me, my feet give out, and I gasp as electricity surges through me, turning me numb. My tongue tingles, and I fail to form words. A dark bag is forced over my head. The tension on my hands is released as the chains are loosened, but the chains were the only thing keeping me from the floor. My elbows catch me before I face plant the floor, but the chains are pulled taut and my face smashes into the ground and I'm dragged from the cage.

I'm swung around like a rag doll, dragged carelessly from the cage. I hear a door hinge open and the sounds change. Its quieter and the sounds don't echo as much. I think im in a wide passage, my feet graze the walls and the passage curves. My captor is too quick for me to get a footing, and any attempts end with a face full of floor. Suddenly, I'm swung up by the chains and hooked upright against a wall. My arms resist against their sockets and I gasp against the unsuspecting pain. My feet graze the floor, but I'm slightly too short to release the pressure in my arms.

I feel the heat of three humans nearby. One is hooked up against the wall next to me, one is the man who brought me here, while another stands guard. Tiny bits of light escape through the fibres of the bag, but not enough to really see what's going on.

The human next to me is crying, I could smell the sault in their tears, but their cries are stifled with fear. What on earth is this place?

"bring up the next one!" I hear someone yell. Doors open, the human is lifted from his bindings on the wall and a tiny whimper escapes his mouth. He's bundled out of the door which is locked behind him.

One human left. Time passes in silence. Three loud thumps on the door make me jump. The man steps forward smelling of sweat and grime, his arms reach over my face and unhook the chains, I stumble and get pulled along, but this time im allowed to keep my footing.

The floor slops upwards for several meters, until we stop, and he hits on the trap door above us. When it opens a wave of sounds hit us. My feet find numerous steps as I'm half dragged onto the platform.

The bag is whipped from my head and I'm met with glaring lights shining down from every direction, blinding me from sight beyond the podium- but I didn't have to see I could smell and hear the sounds of hundreds of humans beyond that light. And one booming over voice "and what you've all been waiting for. Our star in today's auction. The first ever in history, vampire immune to sunlight!"

Auction? I thought to myself, what does that mean? I squinted at the shadows trying to make out the crowd, all the while trying to cover as much as I could of my bare body. Fear made my body stiff, and even though I knew I was faster and stronger than any human, I shivered in fear, half naked and in cuffs for the humans to gawk at. Fear, like a disease had set into my bones, and my mind went numb. I did nothing to escape.

"observe my loyal customers." The voice booms, and the room is filled with the smell of something sweet. I sense someone close, and I stumble back before someone grabs me from behind, and pours something wet over my face. I recognise it, some of it enters my mouth and im struck with the fragrant taste of human blood. The human grasped my hair and pulls my head back, forcing my mouth open, revealing the retracted fangs in my mouth. The next moment the ceiling open's and pool of sunlight floods the podium.

Sound erupts from the shadows as im kicked out of the humans grasp, and fall clumsily to the floor. Dirt sticks to the blood as I stumble back to standing position.

"Shall we start at ten thousand credits?" the mans voice booms.

"Twelve thousand"

"Thirteen thousand"

"-Fifteen"

"-Eighteen"

"Twenty!"

Wait, what's happening? What are these numbers? Why am I here? Whats happening? What are they doing? My mind started to unfreeze to panic, my eyes searched the room for the answers, for anything. I stumbled to the edge of the stage only to be thrown backwards with an electric shock.

"One hundred thousand credits!" a deep voice booms out from the other side of the room.

"Any other takers on one hundred thousand credits?" the man asked the human crowd. There were mummers, but when nothing else was said, "sold to the man in blue for hundred thousand credits!"

…Was I just sold to a human for hundred thousand credits?

My last thought was of the rising panic forcing its way up, before I'm shocked with a current that surges through my entire body, turning everything numb.
