It was 5AM and as promised Dakota stayed up all night watching Netflix. He was too scared to fall back asleep after his dream. He couldn't get over how vivid it was, how real it felt when he was tackled to the ground by the monster.
"Koda? What are you doing up?" Selene asked. She has to wake up early everyday for work and she found it strange her son was up this early.
"I- I uh couldn't sleep," Dakota says shyly.
"Thats weird, I checked up on you yesterday. You were out like a light?" His mom said confused.
"Just a night terror mom. I'm fine," Dakota says. Selene simply sighs and hands him her cup of coffee.
"You'll be asleep all day without any energy. Drink that, and bring that disgusting monster you always drink with you," She sighed. Koda nods and takes a sip of the bitter drink then goes back to his show until his alarm goes off.
An hour later Dakota thrown on jeans and a black t-shirt and didn't even bother to comb his hair. He grabbed his bag and two Monster energy drinks out of the fridge and left. Then he quickly got Mia ready and they made their way to school. As Koda and Mia left their house he felt as if they were being watched. He wanted so badly to turn around and see what was watching him, so he did because he ain't no bitch!
As expected there was nothing out of the ordinary, the streets were empty except for one or two passing cars, and an old man sitting in a rocking chair on his porch smoking a pipe. The old man and Koda made eye contact for just a moment before Koda smiled, waved, and continued his walk to school.
"Are you okay Koko?" Mia asked. She looked up at her tall brother with a concerned look on her face.
"I'm okay Mia, just thought I heard something," Dakota said giving her a reassuring smile. Satisfied with his answer Mia tightened her hold on his hand and tried to drag Koda to her school. Once they made it Mia gave Koda a hug and ran to her class, and Koda made his way to his school which was a block away.
"You look like shit Smith," Carla laughed as Koda entered the school.
"Thanks, you too Martinez," Koda laughed. Carla nearly cackled as she gave Dakota a noogy and punched his arm.
"She's right you do look like shit," Micha says coming up to the two teens.
"Just didn't get much sleep," Koda replies. This has happened before. Koda will have night terrors and won't sleep afterwords, Micha, and Carla were beginning to think he had Nightmare Disorder. They both gave him a worried look but Koda just shrugged it off and cracked open one of his monsters. "I'll be fine," He simply said.
Before either of Koda's friends could respond the bell rang, the three teens said their goodbyes and headed to their separate classes. Koda's first class was history, and every year when it would near Halloween his teacher would tell the towns oldest myth. Kind of like the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus and how they were supposed to come back after 300 years. Koda personally thought the story was complete bullshit. I mean, if you heard it you would to.
As he entered the class Koda saw his crush, yes crush. Because this is high school and our boy is a simp for skater girls with purple hair. No I'm being serious, K.C Anderson had ice cold blue eyes, pale skin, two black lip piercings on either side of her mouth, and bright violet hair. Dakota took another sip of his monster and sat in his seat.
"Smith! You brought me one right?" K.C asked.
"Yeah," Dakota chuckled.
"The cherry flavored?" She asked testing him.
"Yup!" He laughed. Koda grabbed the monster and passed it to K.C.
"Thanks Koko," she said with a wink.
"God you and my sister both," He laughed rolling his eyes. Like I said our boy is a simp for this girl. The teacher entered the room and quieted everyone down, that was Koda's cue to put his head down and close his eyes slowly drifting off.
A few minutes passed and K.C flicked his head making Dakota's head shoot up.
"Mr. Smith? Hate to say this but my class room isn't a place to sleep," The teacher says.
"Sorry, Mrs. Jackson. Didn't get much sleep last night," He said sleepily. She simply nodded and continued to take roll. With a deep sigh Dakota took another swig of his drink.
"Alright class! Now that we've taken roll today we are going to talk about the Acidghoul Monster that lives in our forest," Mrs. Jackson says excitedly. Both Dakota and K.C groaned. K.C dramatically threw her head back, and Dakota glared at his monster. "Glad your all excited to hear. Anyways, this story begins when Greenwater, Washington was first created. The village was surrounded by this foggy forest, and it was said that whomever were to enter this foggy forest. They would fall victim to the Acidghoul. They would come back beaten and battered, and within a week they'd grow obsessed with finding out what this monster was, what it did. And the poor person would go insane trying to figure it out. And then soon enough the Acidghoul would come in the night and take their meal for their own." .
"Is there any proof this damned thing exists? Any photographic proof?" Dakota mocked.
"No, Mr. Smith there isn't. But its said that it leaves what seems to be drool. Also being said, it got its name because the drool that was left behind seemed to have left a physical mark," Mrs. Jackson finished.
"I call bullshit," K.C whispered to Dakota.
"Me too," he whispered back. They both chuckled quietly as Mrs. Jackson continued with the story.
"Mrs. Jackson if the Acidghoul Monster was real, what does it look like? I mean we just can't stay out of the woods forever," K.C asked.
"No one knows what it looks like, and you know the rules K.C we aren't allowed to enter the forest," Mrs. Jackson says pointing her finger at K.C.
"If there's no proof of it living then what's wrong with entering the forest?" Koda said.
"We aren't talking about this, class dismissed!" Mrs. Jackson says. The two teens rolled their eyes and walked next to each other out of the class.
"Well that was a waste of time," K.C grumbles.
"Agreed," Koda said.
