"They are worthless, Shay." Marcus Zephanie had answered when Shay Zephanie had asked him about the boy named Vincent and had noticed that he was somehow missing.
"Worthless?" She watched Marcus Zephanie nod although she was not trying to confirm it, rather she wanted him to expound what he meant by calling 'them' worthless.
Shay Zephanie knew what the word entailed, however, what she was trying to understand was why did Marcus call Vincent worthless.
"Why? Did he do something wrong?" Marcus Zephanie smiled kindly at Shay.
"No, he didn't. He doesn't need to. His very existence was what was wrong. He has no value. I simply gave him a free pass not to be a burden to anyone."
No value.
Burden.
Worthless.
Those words resonated with Shay Zephanie as she watched Vincent vanishing right in front of her.
