I found myself humming to some songs I don't even have the lyrics for. The medical building was close and though I had less sleep than usual, I felt energized.
My shift was supposed to start later around four in the afternoon, however, I asked Julia, the head nurse, if I could switch places with someone from the seven am ones.
I was hesitant to ask since I don't have any close ties with any of the other nurses. I talk to them, sure. However, I rarely mingle with any of them.
Given the circumstance that I was in, I will only put their lives in danger if I actually let them in my world. As much as possible, if I could keep my circle small, I would, which meant that I am choosing to devoid myself of any other form of connection with the people in my workplace if that entails that I could keep them out of harm's way.
