Chapter 55 - Awake, a Hell of an Exchange

- AMAGHIEL -

Darrel and Emeriel watched from the rooftops as Sognie led one of the guards away from his partner, at first the guards wanted to call their shift partners to relieve them of their shift early, but one of them had contended on the idea.

After a brief squabble, the guards finally agreed on dropping Sognie off at one of the nearby Inns that way they would quickly return to their post without anyone realizing they were gone.

Unfortunately for the guards, this was exactly what Sognie wanted and as they passed between some buildings, Sognie clenched her arms and began choking the guards that were struggling to carry her as they moved.

"What are you-"

"Easy now, just close your eyes." Sognie whispered as she tightened her grip on the two guards before they collapsed to the ground.

"Sognie!" Emeriel suddenly exclaimed when she saw the guards fall limb. "What are you doing?!"

"I didn't kill them." Sognie called back with a low tone.

Emeriel clutched her head in frustration, she realized that Sognie had forgotten her role in the plan, and ended up creating a problem for everyone. The pair of guards that Sognie had rendered unconscious were supposed to switch shifts with another pair, and if they did not find them at their post, the alarm would be raised.

"You were supposed to let them go!" Emeriel reminded Sognie as the group hastily made their way back to the factory.

"Oops!"

Sognie was unrepentant, but Darrel could tell she was willing to rectify her mistake. Unfortunately, the sound of an alarm suddenly filled the air, and the group quickly halted and hid from sight.

A dozen guards poured out from the factory gate and secured the gate as another number proceeded toward the main factory.

"Oh no, we can't let them close it down!" Emeriel exclaimed.

"Gah, well this is me!" Sognie rushed towards the factory gate and pounced upon the guards.

Emeriel appeared irritated, but she did not stop Sognie from clearing a path in front of the factory's gate.

"I will support her."

Darrel stated then lept over the buildings toward the factory, but before he could jump to the streets below, a streak of blue light suddenly shot toward them like a comet and headed straight for Sognie.

"That's enough!"

A furious voice came from the streak as it flew past Darrel and Emeriel and instantly collided with the unaware Sognie.

The street was filled with dust from the impact, but the glow from the streak brightened the area like a miniature sun, and as the dust cleared a mortal in silver armor stood in front of the factory gate with his hand embedded through Sognie's chest piece.

"Sognie!" Emeriel screamed and immediately drew her bow and aimed it at the mortal in silver armor.

"Wait!" Darrel exclaimed.

Sognie's hand had clutched the mortal's hand and prevented him from impaling her chest underneath her armor.

"That's surprising." The mortal muttered then raised Sognie from the ground, then flung her toward Darrel.

Darrel quickly stretched out his arms and caught Sognie in both his arms, but the force from the throw and her weight caused the two of them to fall backward and crash into one of the buildings behind them.

"Now that's a surprise." Sognie chuckled as she wiped a drop of blood from her nose, then grabbed Darrel's arm and pulled him to his feet. "Nice catch kid."

"Gah. Thanks." Darrel winced with pain that only lasted for a second.

"Hey! Don't just stand there gawking, do it now!" Sognie bellowed.

Realizing that she had been temporarily distracted, Emeriel shook her head to regain her composure and then immediately ran towards the factory.

Unfortunately, the mortal in silver had already caught on to their plan as he instantly jumped up to the rooftops and intersected the fleeing Emeriel.

"Where do you think you are going?" The mortal in silver armor blocked Emeriel's path and gazed at her menacingly. "Do you seek war by attacking the Empire coin factory? Tell me, who is your master?"

"Master? Only the Empire's dogs have Masters." Emeriel mocked the armored individual and then leaped backward with her bow drawn.

Emeriel fired off an arrow with a glass vial wrapped around the tip, the arrow made contact with the mortal and burst into a black cloud of smoke. With an opportunity found, Emeriel tried to circle around the mortal, but to her dismay, the mortal had escaped the smokescreen and rushed to block her path again.

"You are quick for a mere dog." Emeriel scoffed.

"I am no mere dog!" The mortal in silver armor suddenly exclaimed then lunged at Emeriel, and with a swift swing of his armored arm, he slammed Emeriel on her side and sent her falling off the building. "Don't underestimate a Captain from the Royal Army!"

"Emeriel!"

Sognie suddenly called out to the falling Emeriel as she reached out for the shield on her back, and when Emeriel who had been twisting in the air with her bow drawn heard her name called, she glanced down at Sognie and realized her plan.

In the instance that Emeriel figured out Sognie's idea, she nimbly curled in midair like a cat and pointed her feet toward the ground.

Sognie had drawn her shield and held it as a platform in her arms, and the moment that Emeriel landed on the shield, Sognie's body suddenly bulked up, and using the momentum of Emeriel's descent, Sognie quickly flung Emeriel toward the factory.

"[Maiden's Might - Matronly Rage]!" A gust of aura and wind blew around Sognie as Emeriel flew toward the factory like an arrow.

When the Captain of the Royal Army saw this, a burst of the same blue glow he had been emitting earlier enveloped him as he set his sight on Emeriel.

"Oh, no you don't-"

Before the Captain could complete his sentence Sognie instantly appeared behind him and fiercely slammed her shield across the back of his head.

"Ohohoho, no YOU don't!"

Sognie smirked as the Captain rolled off the building and went crashing headfirst onto the streets of Amaghiel.

A red arrow suddenly flew straight into the air and exploded, it was the signal that had been shared between the group, a warning for Larea and Ceriek.
