In the dim light of a winter afternoon, tiny snowflakes floated in the cold air, casting intricate shadows on the snow-covered asphalt under Hailey's feet. The empty road in front of her was beckoning her to pedal her baby blue tricycle faster. 

"Grandad! The bike won't go faster!" she whined, not bothering to look behind her to the laughing man trailing after her.

"Honey, you have to pedal faster to go faster!" he yelled back, laughing all the while.

"I am pedaling faster!" Hailey pushed her feet on the pedal as fast as her legs would allow her.

Her grandmother had requested Grandad to buy some milk at the convenience store a few blocks away, and Hailey had trailed along to accompany him. That was the excuse she had used so she could ride the new tricycle that she got for her birthday.
