"Hey, it's alright." He was thoughtful for a few moments. "You're probably just banged up, I mean, you were unconscious the whole night and most of today. It shouldn't be a surprise that you're not in the healthiest condition."
Up close I started to notice things about Jake that I hadn't noticed before. His eyes were a unique shade of blue, different than the blue eyes etched into my mind since the moment I woke up—his had been steely and cold, but Jake's were warm. It made him look friendly even with his tall frame. Maybe that was why it had been easy for me to open up to him despite the fact that I had only met him today. I realized Jake might have been the leader of this group of strong men and boys, but he was a nice person overall. It made me want to know more about him.
