Something clicked behind Nate's eyes, his previously menacing expression turned deadly. As Nate advanced on his prey, Mia came forward and pushed Michael behind her. This seemed to annoy Michael, as he ebulliently jumped forward towards his approaching foe. Nate never took his eyes off Michael as he came closer, his fist in midair.
What happened next seemed to unfold in slow motion. Without thinking, I moved as fast as I could, my reflexes taking control as I jumped in the trajectory of Nate's blow, afraid it would somehow hit my best friend.
At first, I thought he had pulled back his fist in time, because I didn't feel the blow as it happened, but the next second proved my theory wrong. A strong vibration coursed through my head, snapping me back and dissolving my balance. I collapsed to the ground gratingly, my head hitting the floor as a loud ringing continued to overtake my senses.
