"Levels?" Hailey asked.
"Yeah, it's what we call them, for lack of a better word. When you go inside your mind to your subconscious there are . . . levels to how deep you go," Halden explained. "The island was the first level. It's where everyone goes when we first jump through. Although, unlike you, everyone else ends up somewhere actually on the island, not in the ocean around it."
"So how come I did?" Hailey questioned, her curiosity piqued.
"To be honest, I don't know. It's like your brain works in a different wavelength or something."
"I thought I ended in the ocean over there because that's how I triggered the . . . jump," Hailey said dubiously, "—because I jumped in the ocean on this side."
