The trek down to the lobby this time is not spent quietly. We met a few people coming down the stairwell as we were coming into it—Caleb, Tamara, Olivia, Mr. Cheng and his son, William, and a few other strangers with names I have yet to learn—and so we walk down the few flights of stairs together.

Before Hailey could say anything, her grandmother spoke. "Wait while I get the doctor, okay, honey?" She pressed a hand to Hailey's arm before leaving the room in a rush. Hailey took that time to examine herself. It no longer felt like her rib was broken, although she still felt a little drowsy, and there were multiple wires connected to different parts of her body. As she was studying them, her grandmother came back with a tall blonde man in a white lab coat trailing behind her.
