My eyes followed Logan as he waited in line to get food. Judging by the way his hair stuck up in every direction now, he must have run his hands through it more times than was necessary. I knew this was one of his tells; something he did when he was stressed about something, and knowing our previous conversation, I knew exactly what that something was.
Logan and I had known each other since we were toddlers—when his parents moved in next door—but we weren't always friends. He was a year older than me, and there were times when I had hated him due to his incessant need to tease me. Over time, the teasing faded and, by the time I'd gotten my first boyfriend, he'd changed from my annoying next-door neighbour into the overprotective older-brother type.
I turned back to Mia just as she bit into her veggie burrito. "You ever think about what we're doing on this Earth?"
