"What happened to him?" Tamara asks, her voice small but just enough so I am able to hear.
"He's still in there, we've had to keep a close eye on him and make sure we don't leave anything sharp unattended."
"Is he still… hurting?"
"No, Ash decided to give him morphine in the end, so he doesn't have the need to kill himself. But it didn't work, he's still talking about his dog and the ravine, still sometimes bangs his head on the side of his cot. Honestly, I don't think Ash knows what to do now, he just keeps telling me to look after him and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid."
I am quite as I listen intently. But I can't help my mind from running wild, imagining what would happen if the man succeeds in what he wants to do, and what would happen to people in the future should our supply of morphine and alcohol depletes. And eventually, as I'm sure it will, that supply will run out. How are we to help people without them then?
