Chapter 1 - The Haunted Alpha Prologue

Edited by: WriterMickeyC

Go and follow her, her books are absolutely amazing! She is also an amazing person! That's just an extra bonus. 😉

The chilling cold bit at my wet cheeks, turning them a light shade of red. I stood there in my black tuxedo with the rest of the pack.

There, laying in front of me was my mate's casket. In the casket was my dead mate.

Beautiful, curled, golden locks lay on top of her shoulders. Her soft pink, plump lips slightly parted as if taking her last breath.

Her mother and two sisters dressed her in a stunning dark, night blue dress that had small diamonds shaping the chest area. Her once emerald green eyes, now closed.

Her hands were crossed over her chest.

She is beautiful. She was beautiful.

The pastor that had said a prayer for her just a few minutes ago came over and patted my back, saying he was sorry.

With that, everyone got up to leave. Some staying to tell stories they remember of her.

"She did not die in vane, Alpha Steven." My Beta, Josh, said to me squeezing my hand.

I gave nothing in response. My eyes still shut in disbelief. All I wanted was to shut the outside world and stay locked away.

Her mother came over and put a red and orange day lily on her, now closed, casket. They were her favorites.

I choked out a sob at the remembrance of the time I gave her a full bouquet of them. Her huge, goofy smile forever embedded into my head.

After a few more 'I'm sorry's' everyone was gone. I took this time to open my tightly shut eyes and cried out in sorrow, seeing what I never wanted to see.

Here lies: Elisabeth Rose Smith

A loving and caring person

A daughter, a sister, a mate, and a Luna

Born: 1997

Died: 2020

I collapsed to my knees reading the last part. I felt my wolf howl in pain and sorrow. His golf was ripping through my mind.

23. She was only 23. Why!? Why take her!? Why not me!?

No. I wouldn't want her feeling this pain I feel. It hurts. It hurts so much! Why couldn't the Moon Goddess just leave her be!?

I just sat there, on my knees, crying until it was pitch black outside. Not even the stars were shining because of rain clouds.

I could already tell that I had stayed here, in this position overnight and it was nearing morning.

I didn't want to move. I didn't want to leave her. She hates the dark. I promised her I would never leave her alone in the dark. I promised…..

The sun had come up already by the time I ran out of tears.

Once my blurry eyes had cleared up, I could see a shadow forming over me. I didn't move. I didn't care.

Josh came and knelt down beside me.

"Hey.. Don't worry, she'll never truly be away from you. She's always with you. How about we move locations? Find a new pack land and forget about the bad memories here?"

Josh was right. I needed to forget, but I can't. I will never forget it. I should have been there, but I wasn't. It was all my fault.

My heart ached as a new set of tears came to take the old sets place. My wolf began whimpering.

"Ok." That's all I could mumble. A whine fell from my lips.

After a few minutes of my silent sobbing, Josh got me up and away from her, so they could put her in the ground.

I will always love you Elizabeth, forever and ever, never letting go.
