Chapter 1 - Chapter one -the Moon

A dark figure holds me in the moonlight, blocking the bright light with his head as he looked down at me lovingly. My tiny hands wrapped tightly around his finger, his blue eyes glowing in the darkness.

Noise could be heard outside of the cave we called home- the only place we've ever called home. The man kisses my forehead softly, giving me a warm smile as he places me down on a piece of driftwood which is floating in a small river in the cave.

"Your smile is as bright as the moon, your eyes shining. But, much to my dismay, I must leave you, my sweet Luna, for we will meet again." the man says- my father, he must be my father.

He pushes the driftwood as I float down the river, my cries and wails were silent compared to the clashing of blades and the screams of pain and agony.

~~~
I jolt awake with a scream, my thoughts racing and clouded as I run my fingers through my hair. What was that? Was that a dream or something else? My eyes were wide as I panted, my arms hugging my body. I'm scared, I don't understand what is happening!
"Luna? What are you doing up at this hour?" I hear my father, say. Sirius Nightshade, he was the man who found me abandoned by my family, alone at a riverbank. The only thing I have of my family is an ethereal rose necklace.
I wiped my eyes as I looked up at him, "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean you wake you..." I said softly, tears falling down my face.
He walks over to my bed, sitting next to me as he hugs me. "What's wrong, Luna? You're not one to cry in front of others," he asks, gently rubbing my back as I cry into his shoulder.
I took deep, shaky, breaths as I cried into his shoulder. "My father. I remembered my father. He was a tall man, he had dark blue hair and blue eyes." I said.
I must get my light blue hair from him, and my left eye. I was born with heterochromatic eyes; My left is blue and my right is grey. My eyes are probably the weirdest thing about me- minus the moon birthmark I have in my cheek-, my pupils are white crescent moons.
Sirius continued to rub my back, trying to comfort me. "Did you get his name? Maybe we could find him?" he asks me softly.
I nodded, "I did, someone in my dream yelled it. His name, I think it's Kirito." I said as I looked up at him, my breaths shakey as I breathed.
His eyes widened as he heard what I said, making me even more confused than I already am. "Don't you dare mutter that name. Someone could hear you," he whispered, standing up as he checked around the house.
"Sirius, what's going on? I'm confused." I said as I stood up, wiping my eyes with my hand while I followed him.
He shushed me, his eyes glowing blue in the dark as the sun started to rise behind me. "Luna, Kirito was the first prince of the demon race over sixteen thousand years ago. I'd he is your father, not only are you the only princess of the demon race, but you're also the granddaughter of Satan."
My own eyes widened as I cupped my mouth. There's no possible way that I'm a demon! I'm human! "There's no way... I'm human though! I'm a human like you!"
He shook his head as he touched my forehead with his index finger. Sirius was a powerful magic user, and has taught me everything I know about it.
He sighed, his eyes returning to normal, "Luna, if it is true, and you are indeed the daughter of Kirito, we need to get you out of here. Pack your bags we leave tonight." he said, his hands resting on my shoulder as he gave me a serious look.
All I did was nod my head, a frightened look in my eyes. I don't know what to do. For sixteen thousand years I have thought I was a human, and now, I find out I'm the daughter of a prince, it's too much for me to process.
"Luna, if you're his daughter, you should have wings," Sirius said as he circled around me. Yes, he's like a father to me, but, he's not much older than I am, he's only twenty-five thousand.
Wings?! I have wings?! "There's no way! Wings are illegal and those who are born with them get them removed!" I whisper yelled, my arms hugging my body as I thought about the fact that I might have wings.
Sirius sighed as he stopped in front of me, "Luna, I need you to imagine wings coming out of your back, okay?" he asked me, crossing his arms as he did so.
I shook my head, "There's no way I have wings, Sirius!" I exclaimed, borrowing my eyebrows.
"Just do it, Luna. If you have wings, I need to get you out of the Blackwing palace and far from the capital. I know a place where you can stay, she can help you." he said, a sternness in his voice, making me tremble somewhat.
I slowly nodded my head, imaging wings protruding from my back. I groan in pain as the skin on my back rips open, two dark blue, feathered wings, coming out. I have wings. No, I have wings! I look at them in awe, but, that quickly disappears as I realise the circumstances.
"No... Sirius, if I have wings, they'll take them and- and-" I stutter out, my arms wrapping around me as my wings did the same while I trembled in fear.
Who am I? What am I? So many questions run through my mind it's giving me a headache.
"These aren't Otori wings, but, that doesn't mean Kirito isn't your father. Maybe your mother had wings and that's where you inherited them from," he said as he walked to his desk, writing something down before attaching the piece of paper to his bird.
I watched the bird as it left, flying to deliver the message. "Where am I to go? I can't stay in the capital with wings! They'll kill me!" I exclaimed, my wings wrapping tighter around me.
Sirius walked over to me, hugging me softly, "It's okay, Luna, I have a friend who can help you. You'll have to find her on your own as once you leave, I will no longer be able to help you. I've taught you magic and fighting skills over the millennium's." he said, gently petting my hair as I wrapped my arms around him.
I didn't want to leave him, he's the only family I have! What about the store? Or my work? The king wouldn't be too happy to find out one of his servants has run away!
"Don't worry about work, I'll take care of it. Now, pack your things, you need to leave as soon as possible," he said, pulling out of the hug as he walked over to take the map off of his wall.
I quickly got clothes out of my wardrobe, running into the bathroom to change. I wore a simple black skirt, a crop top hoodie and fingerless gloves. I sighed as I looked into the mirror, deciding to cover my moon birthmark with a bandage, opting that was the best way to hide it.
"Sirius, what do I do about my wings?" I asked as exited the bathroom, packing some clothes, my spellbook and other necessities I would need.
He gave me a map, a red line symbolic the path I were to take, "You'll hide them, think of them disappearing." he explained as I looked up at him.
I nodded, doing exactly as he said while I closed my eyes, my wings seeming to go back into my back. "Did I do it?" I asked myself as I turned to look at them, seeing as they were gone.
Sirius gave me a tight hug, "I will miss you, Luna. I love you like I would my own daughter, and we will see each other again. I promise you." he said as my arms wrapped around us torso.
"I love you too, dad." I said, a small smile on my face as he pecked my forehead. "I'll miss you too." I added before putting my bad over my shoulder as I waved goodbye and left.
That would be the last time I would ever see him, as a long journey lays ahead of me. And, to be honest, I am very scared.
