Lifting it up close to me there was still blood on the bayonet.
Holding the rifle in my hand I wiped off the blood on one of the mutant corpses. Looking at the door I could see that it had a padlock. It really wasn't a good situation for me to have noticed something as simple as a padlock. It was dark also.
Luckily I knew how to open one of these. Looking through my side bag I found the one and only tool that I actually brought with me and it was a screwdriver.
"Never would have thought I would ever use this."
Taking the screwdriver out, and walking over the dead mutant I got in front of the door. I inserted the tip of the screwdriver inside the keyhole until it reached the barrel of the lock, thrusting the screwdriver in and out of the lock while jiggling it.
Shaking the lock until I could hit the tumbler the door unlocked, letting me through.
Going through the door downstairs gave me an ominous feeling.
"There's no way I'm going towards my death."
It was obvious where I was supposed to go as my goal was to go to the 2nd floor either way. Going up the stairs step by step a creepy feeling kept going through my back. As I got to the second floor the blood storage room was right through the door.
I went through the door and opened the blood storage room it opened easily.
Going into the cold room looking around there were only a few blood bags, about 4 or 5 at most. I took out my leather bottle
It was made so I could purify the blood in case of any malaria, syphilis, brucellosis, and others. It obviously wouldn't work but I had to believe it since I didn't want to know there would be diseases inside my body.
~At Least I knew the ones in the blood bags are safe.~
After collecting the blood bags I got out of there going down the stairs. I was about to drink the blood until I heard a tiny scream under my feet. I lifted it up and backed up while looking down.
What I saw were insects that I crushed and looking further down the stairs the whole bottom of the floor was filled with hordes of insects. I had to run back up the stairs as I already knew that they noticed me.
When I got up the stairs I tried opening the door but it was blocked by a massive amount of bugs that already covered the window. I went for the next stair running up it.
Going up the stairs I looked back and the insects were slowly catching up to me. Looking in front of me the door was busted and mutants were coming out of it.
One of the mutants came running at me. It was right in front of my face. Out of reflex I ducked down and turned around the corner of the stairs. Looking down the stairs again the mutant that went over me was getting eaten by the insects.
As it was eaten I wasn't even able to hear it make a sound as it already vanished into the insects' stomachs. Halfway up the stairs the mutants tried going for me but they were already getting swarmed by the insects.
I decided this time to just ignore them and just run for my life not looking back. I was already out of breath as I got to the fourth floor. Going up one more time a Red mutant bashed through the fourth-floor door and saw me.
It roared and attracted more mutants to its vicinity. I started to hear sounds above me also.
"Oh f*ck me."
I kept going up where the sounds were which was the best choice I could make. The Red Mutant tried coming after me but it broke half the stair and fell onto the insects getting eaten alive while it tried struggling for its life.
Going up to the fifth floor there was nothing I could see through the door. The sounds came above this floor. I took no more chances in going up since I was tired. Bashing through the door right on the other side was a goat.
Before I could say anything else it started.
"BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
As the goat made that sound I felt a rumble around me. Mutant birds started coming through the windows of the fifth floor. The birds struggled to get in looking right at the goat. They became more aggressive coming closer.
Behind me were mutant insects down the stairs and mutants coming from above. A mutant was the first to arrive on the fifth-floor screeching.
"Why the hell is everything after me!"
I could hear the mutant right behind me growling this time. My heart felt like it stopped. I could only hear my breath. Looking for an escape I didn't notice it but my eyes felt like they had crystallized. It was only focusing on the door in front of me.
My blue eyes shined brightly at the door. As I dashed for it everything around me felt slow. Going for the door I opened it quickly. I couldn't see it for myself but behind me, the mutant's breath was right on my neck.
A bird came out of nowhere and caught the mutant instead, obliterating him as it was only aiming for the goat.
My whole body turned itself around closing the door. I blocked the door with my body pushing it back, locking it in.
Behind the door, I could hear everything: insects, mutants, and birds. They were aiming for one place and gathered there. They were right behind this door. The mutants coming down for me were completely massacred by the birds.
The birds that were coming for the goat were getting eaten by the insects. The insects were the winners. They eat everything as I could only hear them. I couldn't calm down at all knowing that the insects could eat me like them.
I stayed silent behind the door while they scurry around this floor waiting until I couldn't hear them anymore. It's been 16 minutes of complete silence on the other side of the door.
Calming down my eyes felt tiring as it went dark, My whole body unstrained itself.
"All this just for some damn blood bags. I'm never coming back to this city again."
I close my eyes and fall asleep.
